Cloud Defensive Rein vs Modlite PLH-V2

You know and I know that 99.9% of people will want the Thyrm Switchback option for the extra $20 BUT if they don't offer a basic metal pocket clip (stupid) people will bitch and moan insistently on their social media channels.
It's the World we live in today sadly so I understand Cloud's position. They took a tremendous PR beating in 2020/2021 with the FDE Rein launch fiasco, but to their credit have owned their mistakes and have improved tremendously. What's another week or two of wait time? At least when we order this time we know that they have stock on hand and aren't crowd funding future batches like they were this time last year!! :)
No, you’re definitely right…..guess I’ll keep waiting. I’m on the road moving for the next few weeks so not like I could order anyway.

Just an update for those not actively following CD's social media channels. It looks like a mid-February launch for the MCH....maybe.

Also CD announced a Gen 2 Rein with a slimmed down head that is compatible with Gen 1 bodies:
Rein Heads.jpg

L: Gen 2 REIN Bezel diameter = 1.20”
R: Gen 1 REIN Bezel Diameter = 1.40”

The MCH and Rein heads are also interchangeable

The new REIN will be rated at 70,000+ Candela at 1,100 Lumens.
Not only did we develop a new light head, but we adjusted the beam pattern. The hot spot is a bit tighter, but not overwhelmingly so. We increased the candela and gave you substantial usable spill.
Through exhaustive testing, these are performing great in CQB environments and giving you enhanced range for PID as well. Hence this being our new standard REIN offering.

Upgrading to a Gen 2 head will require upgrading your tailcap buy CD will do that for FREE w/purchase of Gen 2 head

sweet, just checked mine and they are both the dual-nested, nickel-plated springs! very cool that they are offering free upgrades though!

Same, just checked mine and I have the new spring as well.

Latest update posted on IG. The metal clips are still no bueno, so every MCH will ship with a Thrymn clip (pictured), the Thyrm Switchback will still be an optional upgrade part.

I didn't realize they are doing an EDC head for the Rein also. Cool. I am very interested in their planned switch options coming up this year as well.

Two days until launch! :)
Unfortunately it appears CD is not going to reach their previously stated goal of having 4k units available for launch. They are currently at only 906 units. o_O
May their servers hold up against the onslaught of orders and may the odds be in your favor on purchasing one.

I have an alert set on my calendar, and really hope I can get one but I’m not holding my breath. I think CD makes the best lights on the market and they seem like a really cool company, but one thing about them that annoys me, is they love to hype the ever loving shit out of new products then wildly under deliver on launch day (not in the sense of product quality, just low stock and garbage servers).

Agreed. They are already starting the campaign to manage people's disappointment for the launch on IG. I called them out on their BS. Curious to see if I get a response, ignored, or blocked.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they respond to you, I’ve called them out on something before, and they responded pretty quick.

Now I need to decide which one I want and be ready to pull the trigger right ant 10 and see if I get lucky. Which one are you thinking about going with?

Well, looks like I won’t be trying to get one on launch day. They’re taking 20 bucks off on launch day but not allowing any other discounts. My Mil discount code is 25%, so looks like I’ll be waiting.

18650 MCH High Candela head single output mode with a Thyrmn Switchback.

I already have an EDC light for the administrative stuff, this is meant to be used solely as a P.I.D and pistol light.

Yup, that’s exactly what I’m going with as well.

Their website is going to crash so HARD anyway on launch day.

I'm in the FB group, which has almost 3.5k people...and they only have 2.1k lights made so far. This is what happens when you don't rein in your marketing people when you are having production and or supply chain issues.

Instead of doing the right thing and delaying launch, until they have adequate stock to meet most of the demand, they are going ahead with the impending shitshow full speed.

Hopefully, by midnight on March 5th the backorder queue won't bee too bad for you.

Agreed. Launch day is gonna be an absolute circus for them. I have a Rein and OWL, that I held of on buying until the mad rush had calmed down, but I really need (well maybe I don’t need, but really want) a handheld right now. Every day I have to talk myself out of buying a modlite and holding out to get the Cloud.

I really want to see a comparison between the Modlite OKW and Cloud MCH high candela. I want as much throw as possible.

The best I can do is a Rein 1.0 vs a Modlite OKW. To me the OKW is slightly more of a laser beam than the Rein 1.0 (69k Candela vs 60k Candela).

The new MCH High Candela single output is listed as 71k Candela. Thus likely a toss up. I'm not sure why the Modlite is $100 more than the CD, anybody have any ideas?

I’ve seen those before. I think the CD is the better choice given what you get for the price, but the OKW is interesting to me, and I think more goes in to head design to get that tight focused beam, than candela, that’s why I really want to see those 2 goes head to head (pun intended).

I've been OKW curious since before getting my first Rein last Spring. Dependent on how the launch for the MCH goes tomorrow I may just end up ordering a Modlite handheld with OKW instead. I swore I'd never let CD play the crowd sourcing future product game with my money ever again after they collected full payment and didn't ship my light for another 6 weeks last year. To me that's a horrible business practice to collect full payment prior to having the product available to ship.

It appears people are starting to recognize that the hype train CD's media team has created is MUCH larger than the amount of stock they are going to have available for launch. CD is trying to get ahead of this by acknowledging they will almost immediately go into a backorder situation on launch day, but that they are working diligently every day assembling and shipping lights. However, unless they can increase production significantly, their piddly ~250 lights per week output calculates to a 12 week wait time to clear 3k unit backorder.

May their servers withstand the onslaught tomorrow!

Over 2500 total now with just over 24 hours to go. Not gonna be nearly enough, me thinks!!! I love my OWL and Rein (short) 1.0. Guess I’ll wade it to see if I can snag a 2.0 tomorrow…🤨

That’s kind of what I’m considering doing as well. May still pick up a cloud MCH too when the hype calms down and some reviews/comparisons come out, but the OKW does really interest me, and I’m looking around right now trying to find the best deal on one.

So I have this thing. And I admit that I want stuff to match because...reasons. Don't even have an Instagram account.

You fellers in this discussion seem to have already split the atoms with regard to illumination. I'm just wise enough to know when it makes sense to ask others rather than try to figure everything out on my own.

What do ya'll in this thread think is the best compact OD green light option for me?

Unfortunately all OOS right now, but if you can wait, the Rein 2.0 should have an OD option, if not they have Bazooka green OWLs in stock now, although it’s not the most compact light and is better for shorter rifles/pistols.

If you must have a color coordinated light, the only manufacturer that offers an OD Green option is CD in the Rein 2.0

Although, you say you want compact light there is only a whopping 1.15" size difference between the full sized and micro version. That size difference is minor IMO and going with the full sized ( 18650 battery) gets you a modest performance boost while yielding a significant increase in runtime (3x) over the micro (18350 battery).

High Candela (HC) Light Head

  • 18650: 71,000 Candela/1100 Lumens/150 minutes
  • 18350: 63,000 Candela/950 Lumens/50 minutes

EDIT: I forgot about the OWL as Derek mentioned:

Well, I think the OWL is a bit large so it'll have to be the Rein 2.0 18650 in OD after the flurry subsides. Thank you!

Well launch is in a couple mins. Think I’m gonna try and grab one just to see if I can be one of the first. Most likely won’t work out but we’ll see….

Screw em! I had it in my cart and paid for with PayPal and their damn Captcha thing kept screwing up. Put in CC instead and kept getting errors either with Captcha or some other random error. Don’t need one that bad!!!

Ive either ordered 6 or none! 🤣

check you emails for a confirmation email. My transaction page timed out as well, but I got a confirmation email shortly after that.

So interesting thing I noticed was that those on mobile devices had about a 2 min head start to anybody on a PC. A guy posted a 1 minute warning screenshot to the FB group while I was still at 3 min and 15 seconds. o_O

It appears that I will have a clear anodized full sized MCH High Lumen single output head arriving at some future date.

Nothing in email! I got in pretty early and had no problem navigating to it, adding to cart, etc. Just the payment screen issues! I’ll catch a blemish sale sometime in the future.

Looks like the site crashed now anyway from what I just saw when I tried it one more time.

Update! Well I just got a confirmation email…almost 30 minutes later than my first attempt! At no time did their site verify that my payment went through. Each time I got an error on the payment page. Hope I don’t end up with multiple more of them!!!

So I’m actually bitching out. I have one in my cart and almost pulled the trigger, but I can’t justify the $20 launch day discount when I can back order it for 25% off tomorrow.

ODG micro rein still showing in stock. Be quick and you can probably get one
Guess I want the larger one and will be rolling the dice on "Available on backorder". =)

thank you!

Looks like all versions of the MCH have sold out at this time. Some versions of the Rein 2.0 are still available.

I fortunately was already logged into the site and remembered to already have a Thyrm Switchback in my cart went the MCH's went live...I forgot the extra battery though.

I must have missed it, but did they say when they would have the HC heads available for our older Reins?

Think I am going to get a Clear Anodized MCH, just to be different. It looks like they are showing as $199 at the moment. If I wait until tomorrow to backorder one, it is going to be 25% off?

If you qualify for Mil/LEO discount then CD products are always 25% off…….except for launch day apparently
