Figured this was best suited for here and this isn’t a promo, I just wanted to share my new toy lol.

Anyway, Recently picked up a 65w Co2 laser to help my mom with her craft business she does on the side. I agreed to run it for her since she admitted she’s not ver tech savvy. Anyway. Had it about 2 weeks and absolutely love it. So many different things you can do.

However; I know someone will ask and no I can’t go deep engraving or mags like you see with all the cool logos. That requires a fiber laser.

Here’s a few things I’ve done recently.

Cermark is good on some metals. We run our 150w really slow and at a low freq to get some good etching in stainless.
I've been working at a laser shop for about a year and a half. They are wicked fun!

CHRIS
EDIT: I removed "depth" from the stainless sentence. It's just a strong etch.

Thanks I have some and the rotary but I’ve honestly been so busy I haven’t had a chance to hook it up to run it.

I wanted a bigger table that would of course give us more wattage but figured we’d start here and work our way up.

It’s still amazing watching it go.

We have a little 40w Epilog with rotary that gets used quite often. The cheap "powder coated" and rubber coated tumblers turn our well using it. Our 60 fiber has a horrible rotary that is a pain in the butt to set up and operate. It doesn't get used much. All of our cup work goes on the Epilog with its very simple rotary attachment.

I can say that the CorelDraw based software is a lot easier to use than full on CAD/CAM software. Print to cut/etch vs GCode is the way to go.

We looked at an epilog and ended up with a Boss. So far I really like it.

I’ve been using illustrator and the burn software, lightburn. So far that’s all I’ve needed and it works well for most design work/ projects.

Place I used to work used CO2 lasers. Weakest one was 1500 watts. It would go through 1/2 steel like hot butter.
Hot butter doesn't go through 1/2 steel...

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

New guy here digging up an old thread.
Hoping to pick up a fiber laser in the near future for tinkering after retirement.
I've been programming C02 lasers for my employer since 95.
We started with a 2K Mitsubishi and currently run a 4K Prima with a rotary.
Boss has been researching fiber for a while. Probably waiting for me to retire to pull the trigger. :p

A local knife guy recently bought a 40w fiber marker straight from China. I think he paid less than $2k for it. The pawn shop in town has less than $12k in their no-name fiber marker. We have a $90k American made fiber unit at the shop. All three mark and etch the same and run extremely similar software.:D
