Coastal Carolina IDPA Challenge

Wonder if anyone will go down the night before and stay in Southport? I'm thinking about it.

That's my plan. There is also a Holiday Inn Express just down the street from the range.

Since the missus can't go I just need to be sure someone else is there if I go the night before. I can't be left in a new town alone unsupervised. lol

Yes. We can do one after the main match is over.

I'll be shooting that qualifier, and probably dmarbell too.

Don't you worry. I make everyone else look great. lol

Uh.....I reckon I need to get classy fried too if I am gonna start doing this mess.

Guys I don't know the first thing about this here IDPA stuff. Whats one need to get started? What is getting classified? What is IDPA #? How much is that Costal Carolina IDPA Challenge? Me and my son shoot the ZSA matches, 2 gun rimfire and the occasional steel challenge. But haven's shot any sanctioned matches.

You'll want to shoot local IDPA matches first and get your feet wet. Then you can shoot a qualifier match after you join IDPA. Once you've done that you can shoot these regional matches.

It's pistol shooting in defensive scenarios with a competitive element, but very much focused on the camaraderie of shooting, and safety. Where are you located? Maybe we can point you to some local matches close to you.

I'd recommend shooting a regular IDPA match at H2O Fowl Farms firstly, just to see if its your thing or not. If you like it, you can become an IDPA member, which you will then get your member number.

To shoot the Coastal Carolina match, you'll need to be a member, and have shot a classifier before the match.

Basically, IDPA is supposed to be more CCW based than the other games. There are some more rules on gun modifications, holsters, etc. I generally like the game, even though I'm a USPSA shooter mostly.

And with reference to what one needs to get started in IDPA.
pistol
strong side belt holster
two mag pouch/carrier
three mags
100+ rounds of ammo
ear and eye protection
cover garment (unbuttoned shirt over tee shirt, jacket, anything that covers pistol and mags with arms outstretched at 90 degrees

I'm in the Chatham County area.

First let me say that at most of these matches, around 15-25% of the shooters are first time to IDPA shooters. The matches are always new shooter friendly.

First Saturday of the month a half dozen of us descend on Wilmington for the Buccaneer match. 25-35 shooters. I know that's a little far.
Second Saturday is H20 in Dunn. 75-100 shooters. This is a great place to get started.
Third Saturday. Coharie Shooting league below Clinton NC. 30-40 shooters.
Fourth Saturday. Deep River Sporting Clays IDPA. between Moncure and Sanford.
Any month with a fifth Saturday. H20 BUG match. Were we shoot the smaller guns at closer distance that most of us actually carry.

Gonna see what I have on the schedule on the 4th Saturday. 1st and 2nd Saturdays are already taken with ZSA in Oxford and 2 gun rimfire at DPRC. Don't mind the traveling from time to time. My son is in college now so it would give us a chance to go somewhere for a few days and burn some ammo while catching up with whats happening in life. Will you be at the Deep River Sporting Clays match on the 4th Saturday?

I was this past Saturday, and will for the next one in February, then at the Coastal Challenge the following one.

Where is a good place to read up on IDPA matches? With it being self defense scenarios I guess that the pistol and holster must be concealed? Which would really play a part of what pistol you can use.

Idpa.com
You can likely shoot your favorite pistol. A lot of folks shoot full sized pistols.

Having never been to a tiered IDPA match before: what makes it worth $65 more than your average weekend match, with only 4 more stages? Definitely going, I just don't know what to expect.

I just checked the IDPA page for this match and I don't see where to download the registration forms. Did you see those? I didn't see the match fee either, so I'm thinking I missed something (it won't be the first time, believe me)

This sounds like a lot of fun, but I'm gone watching exhibition baseball that day. Keep me in mind for the Watauga shoot in July, though.

I'm cross posting this from another post here about the match.

News Flash---We have arranged for discounted hotel rates at the Comfort Suites in Southport, NC 5.2 miles from the range.

Double Queen rooms for $99 per night and Single King rooms for $89 per night. This room block rate expires on March 1st so book now if you need lodging. rate is good for Thursday through Saturday nights. Call 910.454.7444 and ask for the Ant Hill IDPA room block.

Does anyone know how I can get a classifier in prior to this match?

Ed at Deep River will do one any day you choose. I want to say it's $40 for that. Other than that, just call around to different clubs that have IDPA and ask them about their next classifier. Good luck!

Lon said that he is running a couple of guys thru the classifier tomorrow morning at 10:00am at Buccaneer and for you to join them.

So who all is shooting the match? I'm SOing and will shoot it Friday and SO it Saturday.

Exhibition baseball? Is that where they run around in trench coats?

Lon is offering to do a classifier if you need it, from his email:

If you would like to shoot the Coastal Carolinas Challenge on March 25th and you do not have a current IDPA Classification then please read this:

If you want to shoot the Tier II match at Anthill Range (The Coastal Carolinas Challenge) on March 25th.

If you DO NOT have a current IDPA Classification

If you are an IDPA member with a current membership

then I will hold a classifier for you on Saturday, February 25th at 12PM at Buccaneer Gun Club. The cost of the classifier is $5 payable on Saturday at the range. You will need to have your IDPA membership number and the classifier requires around 100 rounds of ammunition. Please email me at [email protected] or text me at (910) 520-6719 to let me know you plan to be there. LL

I will Lord-willing! At least that's the plan. ;)

If it is anything like yesterday's monthly match, you will be in for a treat. Great range and great stages.
