I just ordered a new Faxon barrel and compensator for my M&P 9mm. I usually shoot Limited, but will be moving to Open due to the compensator.

Anyone else use one? Do you see an impact in recoil reduction? Is it worth it to use one?

I bought a 14 lb spring to help it cycle 115 gr since it currently has a 16 lb spring in it.

Also, I'm not concerned about moving classes since I shoot for practice, not necessarily to try to win.

Oh yeah, but maybe not as much as you'd like with big box 115gr.

The big boys load em up to major with slow burning powder and, once dialed in, they should shoot flat as a pancake.
I wish I had time for that lol. I barely find time to reload 30-06.

On G19s I couldn't feel the compensator make a difference.
I think the M&P is a little larger pistol with a slightly longer barrel. I'm hoping I'll see some performance in grouping and recoil mitigation compared to my clearance Storm Lake barrel.

IME, grip technique will get a lot further in recoil mitigation than a small comp using regular factory 9mm.
Open guns shoot major loads that will blow up a lot of basic guns. That said, only you can decide if it is worth it on your particular gun. Let us know how it feels when you get it together.

I also would comment that lighter bullets do not necessarily equate to a lighter spring. For example, I run a 9lb spring when shooting 150gn bullets. It is a matter of power factor, not bullet weight. Most very very hot open major rounds are light bullets and much more velocity.
Also, tuning the recoil spring is more about the action of closing the slide, and the muzzle dip it can cause, and less about bullet weight/power.

Just my opinions.

My favorite pistol is my dotted and comped P10C. I haven't changed my factory recoil spring, the only ammo I've had issues with is Blazer Brass 115, for whatever reason it seems to be loaded really lightly.

There is absolutely a reduction in recoil, and it's significant enough with mine that I find myself slacking on recoil control if I don't shoot my non-comped pistols regularly as well.

Good to know about the Blazer. I hope my results are as noticeable as yours.

What comp you try on the p-10? Got any pics?
