My wife has been working from home the last 3 weeks so I've spent as much time in the garage as I can. I've done a lot of organizing and clean up and piddlin' really.
I have a 5 gallon bucket full of hatchet, axe, hammer and sledge and maul heads. Most all are roached pretty bad. Whenever I can find handles cheap I'll get a couple and eventually mate them.
I came across a few hatchet handles at the flea a few weeks back and decided to do a couple hatchets.
One I did a quick polish on the head and funky pattern on the handle, the other I blued the head and a teak oil finish on the handle.
My Dad is more of a traditionalist so I gave him the more conservative of the two and I'll hang onto the other for work around the house.

Mom's birthday was yesterday so I decided to try to make her something using only stuff I already had around the house.
About 4 or 5 years ago the evergreen shrub/Bush beside the driveway had grown tall enough it was over the gutter so I cut it back to below the gutter. Not sure if the growers planed it or if it just grew that way but it grew into a funky twist. After I cut it I discovered it had a wire wrapping through it, almost like it grew around it?
So I had this piece for a few years and had planned on using it for something I just wasn't sure what. That same Bush died a few months back so I cut it down and saved the stump.
Anywho I decided to try and mate the two and create something...
I ended up with a candy dish, catch all, somethin' another...?

This is what I started with

I'm definitely no master craftsman, just a garage back but really enjoy being creative and working with my hands.
