i have always wondered what any government would do when the revolution begins.
apparently, shut down the internet and jam selective over-the-air bandwidths.

Not really surprising since brute force solutions are pretty simple.

It's part of why I didn't invest in decent radio comms, it's all getting jammed as soon as we need it anyway.

“Too many people around the world are fighting uphill battles to be able to use technology to expand economic opportunity, express themselves, and organize without fear of reprisal,” an FCC Spokesperson told Motherboard. “The FCC is committed to supporting the free flow of information and ensuring that the internet remains open for everyone. We are assessing these reports in conjunction with our field agents and communicating with the Department of State as this issue develops.”

What is the FEDERAL Communications Commission going to do about it, what with this being well outside their jurisdiction? If it's interfering with communications within the U.S., then that might be another story. But they still wouldn't have any jurisdiction over outside sources...that would be another agency which would have to take action on that data...namely the military.

More power to overcome their "jamming "

Non issue

Obvious we don't have this problem but from my reading folks on the island are limited to old surplus QRP rigs and home brew single band transceivers. Many of them limited to only using the freqs within the 40m band which I suspect is why it started in the lower 71xxkHz area. Not sure how much is getting our or what they can hear coming in.

Good radios have good receivers, filtering, noise blankers, etc. The world of HF is far and wide, data, cw, voice etc. Not to mention surplus commercial band radios are out there and sometimes pretty cheap. If it got to that point, you think folks will stay within the ham bands? NOPE. If you understand RF you can take steps to mitigate jamming. Betcha there's a few of us here that could still get comms out. If your interested in the hobby, I'd encourage you to learn what you can, have fun, and not worry about "what ifs".

Could I put it any more bluntly than saying that with a simple mod, most modern radios will transmit anyhere?

He aint from here, you go to talking about mars mods and such, hes liable to think were talking about deep fryin a candy bar.

i really need to learn chirp. this baofeng uv5r only does 400-520. seems mostly useless without modification
A UHF only UV5R? Are you sure there's not a VHF button?
CHRIP is simple, it's learning the frequencies that take time. Just don't buy a fake cable.

Someone should airdrop a bunch of the CountyComm GP5 receivers over there.

It does a whole bunch more than 400-520. Chirp is easy, you wanna meet somewhere between you and me for lunch and I'll learn ya right quiick.

Elon should park some of his internet satellites over the area and wasn't it Google that experimented with geo-stationary balloons providing internet?

Not sure on google. Starlink requires a special ground station to use. Now, a space x rocket passing over Cuba air dropping pallets of Starlink ground stations and HF radio gear would be something to behold! Likely would end Musks career but something to behold none the less.

A C-130 passing over Cuba's capital and dropping a single MOAB ought to do the trick, too.

I done tried to get a Wilmington meet together..I need to learn all this stuff!

DS
Wilmington has a very active club, Wilmington VHF association. Look them up if your getting licensed, I know a couple of the guys down there, good people.

Especially the new ones with the numerical keypad!
