Happy to. Waiting on an old school ramped hooded front sight to install, and then I can blue the barrel. I had one, but since I got the OD at the barrel confused with something else, I ordered the wrong one.

Made a barrel band swing swivel for it, and the proper sized hooded ramp front sight arrived. Both will be installed today.

OK, the hooded ramp front sight is installed and centered. Learned a great deal during my first time through this process. Here come the “mistakes”:

1. There are three ways to fit on of these guys: press on, ream the ID of the band, or turn down the barrel.
2. Even though the instructions indicated that pressing in would be a great solution, .001” of an inch is not insignificant, and even though I measured an inch from the muzzle for the OD, the sight base is long because of the ramp, and the OD does increase by another thou at about 2.5” from the muzzle.

So, the sight was hell to get on AND lined up with the rear sight base. Lots of heat and brass mallets were required. I wanted the front edge of the sight base to be 1/8” back from the muzzle. Nope. Too bad. Ain’t going to happen. Anyway, it’s staying out, thankfully correctly lined up with the bore and the rear base.

Not sure this experience is really a mistake, just a learning opportunity. The instructions were followed, and .001” matters.

Interesting, I had assumed those were soldered on.

Yes Sir, they certainly can be and are, and this one has a hidden set screw as well. If I had a problem with it being loose, I would have soldered it. No need for either with how tightly it’s in place. The thing is not coming off. Will probably do the set screw as a formality.
