I’ve had a Marlin 917V for a while. It shoots Winchester 17 grain Vmax ammo really well at 100 yards. Well I bought a 22 suppressor last year and want to thread it. It currently has a 22” bull barrel with a 1:9 twist. I also want to cut it down. It’s too long. Anyone have any experience with cutting one down? I’m thinking either 16 or 18 inches. I don’t want to jeopardize accuracy but it’s way to heave to enjoy and can only imagine what it will be with a can attached. If I’m going to cut to 18” should I go ahead and do it at 16? Thanks

I’d start at 16. If that’s too short, I’d add 2” back. 🤓
I took your advice haha. Originally it was 22”. Cut it down to 16-1/2. With the suppressor is it still shorter at 21

Now to put the scope back on and go shooting!

I have yet to put a scope on this. But my question, I currently have a Dead air Mask 22 suppressor on a Bergara BXR. It shoots amazing and all you hear is the action shooting CCI subsonic Varmint ammo. I want a dedicated suppressor for this 17 HMR also. Any suggestions? Should I just go with another dead air? Should I go with something longer?

@BigWaylon and whoever else

Nothing wrong with another Mask. Not much reason to buy anything longer. It’s gonna be supersonic anyway, so you could even go with a smaller one. Maybe an Oculus in short config. Or stay the same length and drop over 2.5oz by going with a Phantom 22.

I like the looks of an Oculus being able to shorten it. I may ask my guy tomorrow if he can get one. We shall see
