I do like a ‘67 Galaxie with an FE. Me and baby sis around 1974.

One of the fastest road cars I've ever ridden in was a 1969 Galaxy Fastback, 428-4 speed "police interceptor". Supposedly when new it went to the sheriff for some small town in the eastern part of the state. Friend of mine bought it about 1972. Don't know how it was geared but it had some long legs.

FWD. It would be awesome to drop that engine/trans/subframe into a rear engine kit car though.

Well, not a Torino but close. And it's Fieldgrade size. I've seen this at a couple of shows, it's a cool car.

.

my fathers cousin had a flavor of ford wagon when i was a kid (im assuming torino), and would lay a $100 bill on the dash and tell us we could keep it if we could reach it when he mashed the gas to the floor

Chevy SS is on the right track but if you can afford one of those there are some LS7 CTS-Vs out there for similar money if you're patient and/or willing to drive to pick one up. The first generation CTS-V with the LS6 would be significantly cheaper than the SS.

Haven't seen other members here mention it but checks all your boxes. Late model, 4 doors, RWD, V8

BMW E92
BMW E39

Both are excellent drivers cars if you can swing the cost of ownership

These are the only options I could think of after the Chevy and the Caddy.

Along the bimmer lines - stuck on a V8? What about a I6 with a turbo or two?
It'd give you plenty of room to grow the power to your heart's desires

@fieldgrade

This was not a “funny” sir, I’m serious.

It’s less about speed for me, and more about fun, and a certain old school visceral experience that guys my age have loved since youth.

I like internal combustion in general, V-8s in particular, and a carbed engine with a choppy cam even better, but I’m sure I’ll end up with EFI if it’s anything late model. I’m not looking for a project. And don’t have budget for a resto-mod like that Chevy up thread.

I’m going to try to stay under $30k, and that would necessitate selling the Road Glide.

I prefer more traditional, American, or American style (think Holden).

That’s a 6.0 judging by the exhaust note/body style, not a 6.7. Didn’t read the comments but I’d wager to say twin or compound turbo setup with some big sticks. Dude likely has tens of thousands into the engine/trans in that truck. Far from a tuned stock truck.

Tuned diesels can be stupid powerful and they get the giggles on boost launches but they are far from “fun” to drive daily. It’s still a 8k lb truck that you have to maneuver in parking lots, drive throughs, etc. Not to mention expensive to repair.

That said, if he wants to find him a 6 liter to build/tune @Diablos and I will be happy to assist/guide him in spending his money 😜

My dad drove pretty boring company cars most of his working life but was an old hot rodder at heart. When he retired 10 or so years ago he was just going to buy a new Mustang GT convertible. I ended up finding him a nice used low mileage Porsche Carrera 4S convertible that he bought. It's a manual and he has put around 75k miles on it. It's a sweet ride and I love living close so I can run over and borrow it for an afternoon. Last year he ordered the first new car he had ever purchased for himself. It's a BMW X5M. It is gorgeous, ridiculously fast for an SUV and has ample room for grandkids.

How about a nice ‘55 Chevy sleeper? This would be fun

Best I can do is an automatic, located in LA

The color is certainly right for him.

Sharp ride!

I think you’ve ID’d your options in the initial post based on your criteria: late model, four door, manual, v8, rwd, Americanish, under $30k.

Only one I would add is a first gen cts-v or sts-v (may not be under $30k). If you are willing to loose two doors there is the gto.

This is more my style, but you might like it if you can get by with two (large!) doors: a 454-powered ‘69 BelAir with three on the tree and dog-dish hubcaps. Dang, now I’m tempted!

Yea, the CTS-V’s are no where close by, and in lower mileage variants they are all $50K. You pay for that 640HP.

Slightly used Subaru Sti (no longer being made)

No need for me to make an argument for it. Go test drive one and post your impressions (and a pic of your new car keys)

Wont take long to spend $20k either

And this just popped up in my fb feed 😆

I can hear what you guys are gonna tell your wives when they ask what you did on New Year's Eve pecking away on your phones and computers.

"WE WERE JUST TRYING TO SPEND FIELDGRADE’S MONEY AS FAST AS WE COULD."

I’m going to take some trips on the bike this spring, and gauge then whether I want to keep it another year after that. Plus it will depend on what the bike market is like then. There’s just no telling. The market was good for sellers when I sold the other two, 2 summers ago, but it’s pretty soft right now.

My wife is spendin new years eve reading this thread and looking at cars mentioned. Then looks over at me earlier and said "You and Chad are going to bankrupt Ash if he signs off on building a diesel truck." 🤣🤣🤣

Do what you want , I quit riding more then a few times. You will be back. Cars are pretty darn boring,, even big HP gets old pretty quickly as compared to riding a bike.

I thought I was done in 1974 when I sold a 2 stroke Kawasaki triple to my dad. Then in 1989 when I sold a 1985 HD after moving from SC to downtown Raleigh.

Then two years ago when I sold two bikes, and ended up with another one four months later.

But the traffic really is getting stupid here in Wake county. Residential construction in every direction for 15 miles. Apartments, townhomes, single family homes, road construction. It’s just wide open.

I’d like something that’s fun, not old, that can drive to the mountains WITH the wife, and something I can put the grandkid in occasionally. The bike checks my other boxes, but none of the ones I just mentioned. Plus my vision is not improving, and my snap decision making on the road is not what it once was.

I’ve gotten in 32,000 miles in the past three years on two wheels. Have sorta gone all the places I wanted to go, twice, and figured out that some of the other destinations are just far enough away that they might not be in the cards for me.

I understand completely, I used to live over near you . If I still did, I wouldn't ride a motorcycle. I would be looking for a 4 door performance car that had a V8, rear wheel drive with a manual trans. Ever consider one of those? 😁

Bought in 2014. ’93, 5.0 5 speed, and 3.73 rear gear. Wasn’t that fast, but felt fast with that gear, and you could drive it as hard as you wanted without getting killed.
Just bolt ons, lowered, with welded-in subframe connectors. Those ragtops are a little twisty.

Bought in 2017. ’04 SVT Cobra. Stock boosted 4.6 modular. You could hurt yourself in this one. It was the most powerful Mustang Ford had ever produced to date, including vintage GT 500s and GT 350s from back in the day. Then they reintroduced a new supercharged GT500 a year or so later in the new(old) body style. 2005?
