Just had a couple seconds of shaking here in the western Piedmont. Felt the house shake and heard a dull rumble towards the end. Anyone else feel it?

Glad it wasn't just me
Shook the house. Couldn't figure out what had happened

I was in the basement bedroom of my last house a few years back talking to one of my kids when a herd of elephants rumbled down the hall above.

Went upstairs, no elephants, but there was a similar event as just described.

Yep - felt it eating breakfast at the Morganton Cracker Barrel. I thought it was thunder at first.

Me, too. Wife said "You hear thunder. You don't feel it!" Well, sometimes you do, but not like this.

The geology of the land under your house has a lot to do with how well you feel (or don't feel) an earthquake. Some soil types transmit the seismic waves better than others. Rock transmits the waves very quickly, muddy clay actually amplifies the waves.

2.7 is relatively mild, so you'd have to put a check mark in a lot of boxes to feel anything much outside of the immediate area.

When it first happened, I remember thinking how it was odd that I "felt" it, and how it sounded a little different than most thunder.

Taliban playing with new toys.

We get wide eyed customers at work if they happen to be here when the quarry down the road sets off charges….I’m so used to it, that it takes me a second to figure out why they’re freaking out.

Pretty dang close to us.

Looks like about 3-4 miles from cabin. Of course I am at home so I hope it is still on it’s blocks

Heck of a day here in Caldwell, earthquake in the morning, now sweating out tornado warnings in the afternoon.
I Prefer my days to be a bit less hectic

It's the Government man. They just mixed up the times. The tornado was supposed to be first, then the earthquake after they were in the basement.

One tornado went a few miles west of us. The next one went a few miles east of us.

That's the way it's worked out for me so far.
Still have two more bands moving through later on tonight.
Everyone keep an eye out and stay safe
