Did You Go Shooting Today

Did a little practice Sunday at DPRC while the bullseye guys were over there doing their thing behind us.

1.79 was the best string I had. The other 4 were somewhere between 1.96 and 1.86. Pistol strings at the same array were 2.06 on the first one and then they dipped down into the 1.8s. I'm a little faster with the rifle than the pistol. Usually. Sometimes it is the other way around for some strange reason.

Used to put large targets close by but now we're putting them a little further out and making them smaller. No 10" plates in sight. The 8" plate is the best for practice. Really have to be sure of your target but walk that edge between being in control and going as fast as possible. It's silly but it's fun.

No work yesterday, kids at school/daycare, nice weather, new guns/parts to try out, and 3hr at PHA. It doesn’t get much better! 😎

Zeroed my new Vortex SE 3-18x FFP.

Got some good, cheap red dot practice, and reminded myself how much I love this VQ trigger, wish I had done it sooner.

Shot my new MR920L side by side with my MR920+SS Comp. Same ammo and accessories so it was a perfect comparison. Noticeable difference! I’d say the comp reduced muzzle flip by at least 50%, $80 well spent!

Unfortunately I’m still waiting on my AMG shot timer, who knows when that’ll show up.

Took this goofy girl out to a friend’s property to plink around on steel. Loads of fun. I don’t shoot recreationally very often. Something very rewarding about hearing a delayed “tink” from steel at 100 yards and beyond.

TSA today for 9mm therapy, Masada, Beretta APX and APX Carry and , SA Elite and G43. Taurus 85 .38spl with new Hogue grip.
Handed out a few CFF business cards, hope to see some new folks on the forums.

What suppressor is that?
Osprey .22. I wouldn’t buy it again. The attachment interface has to be timed perfectly and you’d need to buy another thread interface for each additional gun. I only got it because it was a $99 w purchase deal.

One day, I'll get consistent with the P30..... or I'll say "F It", list it on the BST, and get another Beretta 92X. I did the grip swap thing at the range and found large panels and a medium backstrap to be the best after using all small and medium. The large panels have a good palm swell effect. Still, the most unforgiving pistol in regards to trigger control and manipulation.

More disappointing is the CZ-75B. I haven't shot one since 2008ish, but I've put 10K+ through one as it was my first and only handgun for a long time. These were the first two magazines and I did get better with the CZ towards the end of the session. I've started shooting it higher which I don't remember ever being a problem "back in the day".

Most surprising revelation at the range today: I thought the whole time "I should have brought a 1911 too".

Took two new rifles to Woodys today to sight in. Both came from forum members. The FAL was the more accurate of the two not surprisingly. Anyone complaining about Mini 14 accuracy hasn't shot an AK! The FAL was doing about 2" at 100 yds with 44 year old ball, the AK about 4" with Tula hollow point.

Better than 4 🦶 groups👀

Finally took a big deep dive on grip fitting. Took three days to get squared away, but now I have a PCP pistol that points exactly where I am looking when I lift my arm.

Did my usual lunchtime practice and had great results. The hold was more consistent, more 10s than I usually average (about 50% of my shots were 10s) and fewer 8s.

Went to DPRC this morning to practice for an upcoming Glock match in 2 weeks in Hurt Va. Started out by killing the Wizard which I hadn't done in a while . Used my Sig 365 from a pocket Remora holster.
Then 100 rnds from a Glock 43X and 50 rnds from a Glock 21. Split between double tapping at 10 and 15 yards and the good old plate rack . Sometimes it was hard to see the targets with all the yellow pollen swirling around. Great day shooting. 20240401_095359.jpg

Y'all are good shooters!

I on the other hand, went out in the woods behind the house with my suppressed P22 and had my way with free ranging pine cones lying on the ground.

Good suppressors make for happy neighbors.

Wife and I went to TSA last night. She shot her regular SR22 and CZ97. I decided to take a CZ75 and Desert Eagle 44. :) The 44 made some really nice fireballs, something that H110 powder is good for. The CZ75 shot flawlessly, it felt like a 22 after I had shot the DE44.

Wife says she needs to go more often. She started out well with the 22, but started anticipating the recoil when shooting the 45.

I did not clean anything when I got home, I hope to do that tonight. I've also got to work the reloading press, I'm getting low on 45, 9, and 44.

Got out Good Friday with my new 223 bolt testing loads that work well in a gas gun and my Bergara 6.5CM working up loads. 223 ROCKED, see targets (100 yd, 5 shot from bags, 77 grain TMK and Accurate 2520). Bergara...not nearly as good. Thinking I need to upgrade the trigger.

Hope to get out again tomorrow.

I went shooting yesterday with a friend and shot my Canik SFX Mete with the Holosun green dot to try and get more familar with the optic. I also shot my EDC Sig P363X for a few mags to keep sharp with it. I did not take pictures of the targets, but I was fairly pleased with my results.

Planning on going Friday. Trying to get ready for a shoot Saturday and hoping I can get some 6.5 need more loads worked out. If that doesn't work, I'm taking my 223 bolt to (hopefully) make myself feel better.

ETA: Looking positive, no field work scheduled today, working on office stuff for a bit then OTR. Cross your fingers I can get the 6.5 to shoot today.

Back to DPRC on Thursday for more practice with the square plastic pistols. Pretty much the same as Monday. Shot about 150 rnds shared between a G43X and G21 double tapping targets at 10 and 15yds and then moved to the plate rack. That's good for burning up ammo real fast.
Started the day by killing the Wizard. Finally learning to use the time. Great day shooting. 20240404_094252.jpg

Finally made it to the range today.

Canik Rival shot flawlessly.

Sig M400 with Lahar 30 functioned flawlessly with new H2 buffer and new Eotech Vudu 1-6 LPVO.

BCA .300 blk side charging bedside pistol ran like a top with new (to me) Meprolight dot and an Omega 300.

Expensive LMT lower still will not lock back on last round. I've now tried two springs, different mags, carbine buffers up through H3, and two different uppers to no avail. Ejection just moved from 3:00 to 1:30 going from heavier buffer to lighter with no effect on LRBHO. I tried the same upper on my Sig lower just to rule out a gas or carrier problem, and it worked no problem. Guess I need to call LMT and have it sent back for warranty and hope its something easy, since I have already SBR'd that lower. 🤬

other than the mount, do you like it? can it be disassembled and cleaned?
Other than the mount, yes. I like the offset bore. This was especially good when I ran it on my M&P22 so that I could still use the sights.
It comes apart pretty easily, one screw at the bottom the runs lengthwise to hold all of the baffles together. I throw the baffles in my ultrasonic and it works well.
I can’t remember the last time I compared it side by side with other 22 cans but I have no complaints about the sound.
That said, I’m pretty sure the Osprey 22 was discontinued a while back, that’s why I was able to get it for next to nothing in the BOGO deal.

The Range at True North in Oxford holds Steel Challenge matches on the first Saturday of every month. Normally the match has 6 stages. Twice a year (April & October) all 8 Steel Challenge stages are set-up. Today's weather was perfect for shooting 8 stages. I shoot rimfire pistol and rifle. I've been undecided about continuing with this match (it's the only Steel Challenge match I shoot). Then I go and have a great time like I did today. *happy sigh*

Not super impressive at 100 yards but finally got them to start grouping and no over pressure signs. I can’t shoot but so good anyways so I’ll take it. I’ve been screwing with these Nickel Trophy Bonded .308 168gr projectiles for a week on and off and had over pressure signs all week even when I dropped just above starting loads. I found the COAL to be the issue. I ended up 0.055” longer than I thought it was supposed to be based on very very similar bullets of the same weight.

Have you considered checking out the 2 GUN RIMFIRE at DPRC ? It's the second Saturday of the month. Challenging and fun , usually 6 stages. Takes about 5 hrs. Come on down !

I ran out to the range today to see if the cataract surgery affected my shooting and to try out a new 22 can. Well, I am going to blame the piss poor shooting on the surgery. I did not shoot my handgun that much, but a friend met me at the range, and I tried 3 of his guns that I have never shot. A couple CZ and Glock 45. The triggers were different on the CZs but nice. All shots were low right.
