Do any of you guys know - I heard they were discontinuing emissions testing in my county this year (Granville). Does this mean they will not fail me for a check engine dash light ? Or will that still have to be off to pass?

The way I understand it is that it's only safety inspections. But who knows.

FWIW, Pender Co. is no emission safety only. The CEL can be on, they don't care, not part of the safety inspection, ymmv.

10,000,000 registered vehicles in NC @ 13.75 each minimum is 137 plus million annually. The inspections are not going away.

Some counties are dropping the emissions part, because the air doesnt cross county or state lines.

Its all a farce, just another damn tax.

Correct, my brother is a service manager at a shop and he got word there is 19 or so counties in NC going to safety only.

Wilkes is also one switching to safety only and I am excited lol.

To answer your second part, if the CEL is on and stays on it doesn't matter for a safety inspection.

Anybody have an update on this? I heard it might start October 1 but haven't heard for sure -

So, if I am in Chatham county, can I have my vehicle inspected in another county?

If so, anyone know which is closest?

Yes. But you get inspected based on the address of the registration.

You confuzzled me. Yes, I can get it inspected in another county, or no I cannot because it's tied to address?

Thanks for the responce bro!

Yes you can have it inspected in another county, but if it is registered in an emissions county it will still be an emissions inspection.

Chatham is one of the counties where emission testing is being dropped.

FWIW, if the vehicle is 35 years old, no inspection is needed. Emissions or safety.

Of course, Cumberland and Hoke Counties are not on that list... Because, well. That's an awful lot of Ft. Bragg money the state would miss out on.
