Was at work today and asked a girl I work with how her 4th was. She responded with “not too well cause my BF accidentally shot himself”
apparently he was showing his rifle (AR) off to his friend in the apartment while they were sitting on the couch.
He had the muzzle aiming up towards himself when the gun went off. the bullet took off a bit of his hand and proceeded to enter his neck and come out the the side. Luckily it did not hit an artery or splatter his brains but they are not sure he will be able to use his voice box again. Believe he has a traech (?) in right now and is still in ICU since I think his systems started to shut down from the trauma and blood loss.
The girl told me that they are all used to firearms but I am betting him or his buddy cleared the rifle and then dropped the mag instead of the more effective way, drop mag rack slide a few times.
sad but could have been worse and it’s a good reminder not to become complacent with safety.

1.Treat all guns as if they are always loaded.
2.Never let the muzzle point at anything that you are not willing to destroy.
3.Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.
4.Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

Clearly didn't follow #1&2
I doubt the gun "go off" on its own so I'm guessing #3 wasn't followed either

Sad for him and her but thank you for the safety reminder.

Maybe it was a Sig

After you asked how her 4th was I bet she said “what what gonna have to speak louder” braced AR I bet short enough to lean over and not enough velocity to kill him. Probably .223 vs evil 5.56 too so that saved him. Or steel cased and poor quality control so round wasn’t loaded to spec. Horse play alcohol

Yep, she said everyone in the apartment were deaf as F. Thankfully her young daughter was not in the same room when it happened and I don’t think saw much of the aftermath. Of course she has already had a visit from Child protective services.
