Don't be this guy

At some point, this guy and the others around him, thought this was a good idea.

So, I have no idea about anything mechanical with a vehicle...or really with anything. But even I know that drilling into a gas tank might be a bad idea.

Use brass drill bits when drilling into gas tanks.

Heh!

The gas lit off when it hit the drill, where the sparks from the operating drill provided the ignition source.

Brass bits wouldn't have made a difference, since the tank is done firm of plastic on virtually all modern cars for over 10 years, and the majority before then.

Take note of how woefully inadequate fire extinguishers are by the time that they think 'No worries I got this' to the time the whole place is burning down.
That fire spread faster than a hooker on new years eve and they're worried about the drill.
Somebody save the Dewalt!

"Tonight on channel 13 news the latest from the fire that consumed an entire building downtown. Perhaps the most tragic development, the Dewalt did not survive."

Disconnecting the fuel filter will let the tank drain quickly depending on where the filter is.
I also jumper the relay socket so the pump runs to empty the tank. A large landscape nail works to punch the plastic tanks.

I worked at a Chrysler dealer a few lifetimes ago and the plastic tanks were sagging between the mounting straps. There was a big recall to replace the tanks. There would be a dozen vans sitting out back waiting for new tanks almost daily. Problem was warranty only paid like 7 tenths to replace the tank. It took that long to jump the relay and pump the gas into a fuel dolly and then manually crank the dolly pump to put the fuel back in the van. So no money to be made and they would just split them up among techs and we would just muddle through them. One day we were slow on work and had a dozen of them dang recalls sitting out back. So I got to scheming. I took one of the 35 gallon oil drain barrels and cleaned it up pretty good rolled it under a van. I used an AIR DRILL with a 3/4 bit in it and knocked a hole in the tank right in the bottom of the sag. Full tank would be empty in less than a min. After tank was replaced you put the oil tank drain hose in the filler neck and applied 35psi to the pressure port. I could do those jobs done and gone in 15-20 minutes that way!!!! 😩 well then everyone started wanting to do them that way.
