NOT SO! My wife has taught me almost everything I know.
True story. I was working part time in a LGS and a guy came in and asked, "What gun you got that will kill somebody?" Stunned a bit, I said, "all of them." Then he said, "I need one right now!" I pressed the panic button and 3 minutes later the police removed him from the shop.
but, muh waitin peeriud!I pressed the panic button and 3 minutes later the police removed him from the shop.
I don't even shoot bolt guns, and I know..."YES! 6.5 Creedmoor is a "long action" just like the .308."
Welcome Newt, love the story, but...
We have a thread to introduce yourself and we'd all like to meet ya!
I have one. "https://www.carolinafirearmsforum.com/index.php?threads/eastern-nc-newbie-here.57967/" And you even replied to the post.
My apologies sir!
Just wanted everyone to know you're here!
I need more of those. and the carbine kit.
More years ago than I want to think about, I was visiting/browsing/swapping lies in a...fairly local shop when a guy bops in and checks out the pistol cases. Points to a Smith model 10 and says:
"Lemme see that automatic."
The rest of the conversation went as follows.
"That's not an automatic. It's a revolver."
"Oh. Well, lemme see it."
"Nice safety."
That's not the safety. That's the cylinder latch."
"Oh. Where's the safety?"
"There isn't one. It's all internal."
"How do I put it on?" (Safe, I assumed)
"You can't. It's automatic."
"I thought you said it wasn't an automatic."
"It's not. The safety is."
"But I can't put it on?"
"Nope. It's automatic. Comes off when you pull the trigger."
"Well, that's dumb! What if I shoot myself?"
"Well, you don't wanna do that."
Highly agitated, he announced loudly as he turned to walk out: "Y'all are stupid!"
And stormed toward the door...yanked it open and smacked himself solidly in the head with it...stumbled back two steps and yanked it again...hitting his knee this time...limped toward his car cursing as he went and peeled out of the parking lot.
The guy at the counter was classic. His expression never changed. As the guy made it through the door, he slowly cut his eyes at me and raised his eyebrows. At that point, I came completely unwrapped.
Hey Abbot, Who's on First Base?
CD
"Don't worry, it's not loaded"
or variant a: "You don't have to aim a shotgun". I'd love to see some of those guys out on a dove field one day.Heard so many places it defies counting...…." You can't miss with a shotgun"
Dang, that one brings back memories. On the rare occasion I worked behind the counter it was a daily occurrence to hear that line (while the firearm is pointed directly at me) and when I check for myself a round pops out and hits the glass counter. I always had trouble holding back my "f*** you" face.
I used to shoot at PDHSC outside downtown Raleigh when I first got into shooting.
Me and my then (now ex) wife had a lane together. she was shooting her Smith 686. Another couple was in the lane to our left, the fellow apparently "teaching" his lady how to shoot so it seemed.
At some point he comes into our lane, taps us on the shoulder & says we need to watch how we're ejecting our rounds.
Excuse me?
He proceeds to tell my then (now ex) wife that she needs to be more careful how she's ejecting her rounds cos one just hit him in the face.
Excuse me?
He seriously believed that a spent casing out of a 686 somehow was ejected with such force that it bounced off SOMETHING, defied the laws of physics & hit him in the face in the next lane.
I then tried as kindly as I possibly could tell someone that stupid that what hit him was a piece of a bullet jacket & could have come from literally any bullet fired. And he should probably continue on with his lesson.
He had to have the last word & told us to be more careful. We immediately left, told the shop guys why we were leaving & never went back.
Haw haw, that's rich. Gives me an idea...wonder how many revolver-mounted brass catchers I could sell to folks like that?I used to shoot at PDHSC outside downtown Raleigh when I first got into shooting.

Something a little different of who believes the crap ... I stopped by a local shop to buy some Ballistol. I use it for more than just firearms ... think WD-40 home use. I grabbed two 16oz bottles (non-aerosol) and was heading to check out but the used gun counter needed to be checked on. I put them to the side of the counter and did the normal scanning. A man asked if I like Ballistol to which I jokingly said “Yep, it’s a great antiseptic and kills germs like Coronavirus”. Damn if I he did walk back and get two bottles and start to the register. I managed to catch him and tell him I was joking ...
Side note ... many people, especially frontline soldiers, believe Ballistol does have somewhat of an antiseptic effect on cuts and scrapes and I just took it to a crazy level.
They are to most people.Another dumb thing that I've heard more than once "machine guns are illegal"
They are to most people.
My wallet claims they’re illegal for me.??? Please explain your logic.
Last time I checked, 37 statrs allow civilian ownership of full auto. Unless you have a felony background, you're eligible.
True, but how many new Class 3 licenses are being approved? I pass strict regulations to have a Concealed carry permit and have held an FFL, but I do not qualify for a class 3. Are full auto licenses still being issued???? Please explain your logic.

But I don’t need an FFL of any kind to buy a Machinegun. It’s the exact same steps I’ve been through 40+ times so far without a denial.True, but how many new Class 3 licenses are being approved? A friend of mine had an FFL to manufacture full auto arms and explosives, but not to own them.

Prove it.But I don’t need an FFL of any kind to buy a Machinegun. It’s the exact same steps I’ve been through 40+ times so far without a denial.
Prove what? That I’ve been approved 40+ times? Or that I don’t need an FFL?Prove it.

Assuming I had the funds, I can go here: https://tarheelstatefirearms.com/store/index.php?route=product/category&path=17_103 and pick the one I want. Fill out the exact same Form 4 I would for a silencer, except I’d put Machinegun in box 4b instead of silencer. Send it in with prints and photos.
Prove it.
...and to add to that.Although I don’t own as many NFA devices as BigWaylon, I do own several machine guns and suppressors and have for almost 30 years.
Newt, based upon your comment above - you’re a jerk, and ignorant of the law as well. BigWaylon is a well respected and long standing member of this forum, and he does not need to “prove” anything. He is a very generous individual, quick to share knowledge and has helped myriads of people with joining the ranks of owning machine guns and suppressors.
For starters, what is a “full auto license”? A “class 3 license” is an SOT FFL” which is a license to “sell” machine guns. You do not have to have an FFL in order to legally own / possess a machine gun or suppressor. What you do have to do is live in a state that allows civilian ownership of full autos and pay a $200.00 tax. And, there are quite a few of those applications being accepted and approved by the ATF.
If you’re a civilian, you must purchase a MG that was on the NFA registry prior to 1986 when the FOPA act was passed with the Hughes amendment that eliminated further manufacture for civilian ownership.
As per the ATF, two years ago there was a backlog of approximately 90,000 Form 4 applications for transfer of legally owned machine guns and suppressors (but the bulk of that was for a suppressor). A 90,000 application backlog is hardly what I’d consider to
Also as of two years ago, your local chief law enforcement officer no longer has standing to deny your Form 4 application by not signing it. ATF eliminated that requirement when they increased the background check provisions on trusts.
Although I don’t own as many NFA devices as BigWaylon, I do own several machine guns and suppressors and have for almost 30 years.
You just go directly to the government with prints and photo to get government approval. Something you don't do at a LGS....and to add to that.
You could take any one of those MGs, sell it to me, and it would transfer on a $200 Form 4 without any dealer/FFL involved on either end.

Absolutely.OK, I'll admit they are not "illegal" to most people, but out of the means of most people. But one thing for sure, they are extremely regulated and registered by the government.
