Anyone have any experience with any edc back packs? I'm looking to purchase one that will stay on me or in my car all the time with a select few tools, medical equipment, and some extra mags. Just curious what people have tried and liked. Thanks!

Yes.

What you want will be based on what youre trying to do with it.
Ive used a full sized LBC pack (which I still love, but have not had it in my car in a while - it's full of stuff to help get me home), Ive used a SMALL sling i got from @NCLivingBrit years ago, it's now in my sportscar, I keep my gun, a spare mag, and light in it. And a book.
It's trial and error.

As far as tools, maybe just keep a small toolkit under the seat or something and that'll free up space and weight in a pack.

Do you carry a first aid kit of any kind on or in your bag?

Basic one, yes. Even now, with no bag in my Daily Driver, there's still an ammo box I keep in here, and a basic one is in there too, along with TP and some random things. I keep it in there to aid putting my hockey bag into the back...which that hockey bag has a very small selection of FAK items too.
But when it comes to FAK - what CAN I use (like, Im not going to be stitching myself up, this aint a zombie world), what's realistic for me (do I need bloodclotting stuff? likely, no) etc. I think about weight.
I think about what the purpose is - for me it's GET HOME. What can I toss on my back and walk 15 miles.

I started doing a pack about 6 or 7 years ago when there was a bad snow storm and people were stuck in ATL for 18 hours or something. At the time I was never more than about 12 miles from home, even now I only work 14 away. Can I throw this on and it help me get home instead of being stuck there? Does it have stuff that will help me 'survive' a few hours of sitting in the car?
Food? Yep, one MRE. Water filtration stuff. Silcock key.
Basic FAK. A book. Esbit stove. Multitool. Light. Leather gloves. Wool socks. Some paracord. And there's a spare water bottle (empty) in there. Maybe more, I forget it all. Spare batteries for light.

Alawys water in the car, usually some granola or trail mix too, or a kind bar etc.
Always an umbrella in the car. There's a handful of things always in the car to aid a bit in a bad situation. And as Ive alluded, to me a bad situation would be a snow storm (rare) or maybe my car broke down and for some wild reason I cant get a tow or a ride home but Im close.
Im not planning a zombie apocalypse.

I picked up a super cheap $9ish backpack from the outdoor section at Walmart after an impromptu short hike with the fam to break up a roadtrip turned into hours. 1st aid, space blankets, 550 cord, TP, sunscreen, bug spray, mag, fire starting stuff, couple bottles of water, couple protein bars, spare batteries.

I have a TAD FAST pack. Expensive, but multifunctional and durable as hell, and doesn't scream "tactical." I have also used Goruck; also expensive.

My EDC is going to be different than yours, his, and hers; it should be personal to what you do and how you live. You may need to experiment a bit to find what you like. My advice is something that doesn't look like it came straight from a Eagle Industries catalog.

Agreed

I've been carrying a Vertx Commuter Sling for 3-4 years now. It's enough to carry basic medical, some chest seals, TQs, gauze, ice compress, etc. An extra pistol mag, flashlight, lighter, etc. Plus my work laptop, pens, highlighters, all that basic stuff. I also have a 3a armor insert in it.

It's a really well made bag, doesn't look overly tAcTiCoOl, but it is a little on the heavy side for a daily bag. I don't use the goofy built in holster mechanism that Vertx has for whatever it's worth, always seemed gimmicky to me.

Backpack from flea market, not sure what brand. TP, water, snacks, fire starters, 22 pistol and ammo, paracord, towel, whistle.
In car or truck, carry when I go walking in GSMNP.

I've got one of the Vertx Gamut bags and they are really nice. The one I have is pretty "tactical" looking but it has lots of storage. You can keep a pistol, IFAK, and all the fun stuff in it. I've got a more discreet Columbia bag that I will use if I'm out and about and it works great. I would recommend keeping a blanket or something over it to cover it up if you're leaving valuables in it and leaving it in a vehicle, that way someone doesn't try to steal it.

I use a Glock backpack I got as a Christmas gift. It has been my EDC pack for the last 13 months or so and it works for me. It had 2 spare mags, first aid kit, small knife, lighter, compass, change of clothes and socks. There is a compartment for a camelback bladder too. It’s really not all that flashy either and works.

I got a couple of these around Christmas for $30. They are as nice as my banded bag (5x the price). My wife and I use them daily for work and we love them. I would buy again at full price if I needed one. They are rugged and the zipper pulls work really well.

I run a Kelty Redwing 32

Have a Vertx Gamut Overland Backpack and Gamut 2.0 that I use for work, also have a Osprey Nebula that I use for travel.

Honestly the bag depends on what you want to carry and what your intentions are.

But I'm the type of person who will take scissors to a brand new Vertex bag to cut off zippers and straps because they annoy me.

Everyone is walking around with some sort of tactical backpack now.. don't overthink it.

My low profile EDC backpack is the Kitanica Vespid 30L. Great build quality and very well designed.

I've been eyeballing the Eberlestock bag, Cherry Bomb (Which is on sale for a STEAL right now)... but I hear the laptop portion is super restrictive.

Now I'm looking at the 'SwitchBlade' backpack.

Anyone using these bags?

I was looking at a vertx ready pack 2.0 and a 5.11 lv18 but they had both been on sale on Amazon but now keep going in and out of stock. Kind of leaning towards a gray or blue 5.11 lv18. Anyone have this bag?

I got a great bag from Nine Line. I carry 4-30rd mags 3-18rd mags for hand gun. Computer. 3 different knives. Notebooks for work. Has a great area for pens/ pencils lots of pockets. Keep eyes/ears in a side pocket. So much more. Also has a conceal carry area with Velcro.

Everything I see on their website has more of a tactical look from the outside with molle. I would prefer a plane gray man look with the option of a concealed section or pocket. I keep bouncing back and forth between a 5.11 covert 18 2.0 and vertx ready pack 2.0. Seems to blend in a lot better and still keeps alot of features and functions for carrying mags or anything else on top of edc items

I ordered one of these after seeing your post. I was looking something to carry-on when flying and also for quick day/weekend trips. This really is a nice, well made pack.

I'm looking for one that I can use as a day pack with occasional overnight backpack camping (tiny sleeping bag and hammock camping).
I like this one with the water bottle sleeve on each side, as well as 2 side CCW pocket. Tan looks not-so-tactical.
Not cheap, but reasonable.

I have a few 5.11 rush series packs a 12 and 24. Also have a larger Blackhawk pack and then several larger camping packs. The 5.11 rush packs work well for edc however so do my crappy floppy canvas jansport bags depending on the loadout. I dont worry too much about the tac bag look as they are very common and I stick out anyway.

I use a north face rucksack for an edc bag. It blends in and doesn’t scream “he’s got a gun in there”

I have an mtac. Got an upgraded velcro holster for the inside that holds most large frame guns. glock 17 with light in mine. Holds extra mags and has room for the other basics.

I have one each of these. Well made.

I have the 5.11 Rush Moab 10 sling bag. I carry several smallish hand tools (pliers, crescent, etc) in the outside webbing. Anyone who has paid any attention comments that I have a nice looking tool bag. It isn’t a huge bag but has a compartment for my Glock 48. It won’t carry a laptop computer, but it carries what I believe I would need in case something bad happens.

Mystery Ranch makes GREAT products.

I don’t have “get home bag”. I have a box in the trunk with enough stuff to stay put or get home for a breif period. I carry a 5.11 bag to the office with my laptop and such. My plan is to dump the pc and load the bag with what I might need should I need to be on foot. With “stuff” in the trunk always, I could chose just what I wanted at the time.

I have several of these for various purposes. One of them is filled with gear I may need to get home, including a good broken in pair of boots. It moves from Jeep to Suburban depending on what I'm driving.

Need help figuring out something.

I’m setting up an EDC sling backpack from Vertx. I love the size and the conceal carry section is great. For a skinny guy that don’t conceal well in the summertime, it will work well for certain places. I love the Vertx Transit sling. I can draw under 2 seconds.

Question: what holster do y’all use in your bags? I can’t find too many out there. Vertx has their own tactigami holsters which might be the best if I want it to be universal. They also have a bap belt adapter to use with a paddle holster or belt holster like the tech lok. Or I can get a Molle lock attachment but then I’d have to refigure my holsters and I don’t really want to.

What do y’all do for pistol holsters and mag holsters? IMG_1238.jpegIMG_1237.jpeg

My sling bag has a velcro interior back panel so I can just clip/strap any regular holster in it.
My backpack doesn't have molle or velcro. It does have a computer sleeve so I keep a Glock 43 in a sticky holster and a few magazines in that portion of the bag.

Get @RR to make up a couple kydex holsters for the gun and mag with velcro on the back. Works well for me in a Hill People chest bag. Nice thing with velcro is you can set it up easily at any angle as long as there is velcro behind it.

Just a neutral color (gray, brown, green, etc) LL Bean backpack. Even people who 'know' what to look for don't think much of that brand, has great quality. If you're the DIY type, a sewing kit can help you put velcro or loops in there for holsters, IFAKs, boo-boo kits and the like. A sewing kit is also a good thing to have along with using it. I have a friend in medicine who said practicing stitches on oranges help, and being able to mend clothes is always a nice skill to have.

I actually ended up finding an older 5.11 covert 18 gen 1 like new and decided to go that route. I'm still setting up up the way I want it and trying to play with how much I can get in there and still keep it light but so far I love it! I did a ton of research prior to buying this bag. I've definitely learned you can't put everything you want in an edc bag and it still be practical to carry but I have done enough research to feel comfortable about being prepared with this setup! Vertx and 5.11 make some great bags!
