I guess I should find me some handgun lights then.

Just thinking out loud, but unless you're already carrying with a weapon mounted light, the class would probably be best run with whatever hand light you're actually carrying.

I got called out on this last week, doing hand light practice for the upcoming IDPA match using a 'gamer' light that's better than my EDC light.

Hmmm … 6 to 7 hours of training some of which is low light range work. Turn out the range’s lights and only the moon which will be about 1/2 moon w/trees surrounding the range … it could be real dark! Then add in ammo is included part of the class fee along with dinner (the range has a nice heated club house with kitchen an dining facilities) $225 since JB is giving us 10% discount is a very good deal. This is one to really consider!

Sounds like a fun class, and an awesome value

To the added value aspect, Last year I had a attempted break-in at my house at 2:15am.

I say attempted because my family and I were home.

I will conduct a debrief during the dinner of the shooting, the results of that engagement, NC castle doctrine, and the mental aspects my family and I are and have gone through. through the lens of a father, a combat veteran, a IDPA shooter and firearm trainer. Will will have a interesting conversation over dinner.

That de-brief alone is worth more then the class fee.

I disagree with this mindset on the bases of the improvement cycle. Let me explain.

I run the Streamlight, Professional Tactical as my EDC light. I know the light works and, have full confidence in its deployment. So I do not need to test the light, thats already done and that testing is why its my EDC.

What I do not know is if there is a better option, so a IDPA match, a training class is the perfect place to see a new comer in my assortment passes or fails.

If the new light it fails, I still got my known light. If the new light passes I now have a second option, and I can run new vs known, and see how it shakes out.

this is what we do at Division Arms, we have known gear, our EDC stuff and then we also have R&D gear for our personal development.

I get that, you have a known good item and then test everything new against it in case there is something better.

My thinking is that let's say 90% of the people never train with the light they actually carry, so buying new stuff to try when you don't have a baseline is not a good idea. Lots of people have picked their EDC light based on something other than how well it performs as a hand light in a gun fight, so learn that first then explore alternatives.

I'll admit to that, I picked a light that is a compromise between size, lumens, runtime and it's ability to find stuff on the floor / see when walking around / etc and not as it might work with a handgun. Since it's from one of the tacticool companies I'm sure it's a fine place to start. My 'gaming' light is larger than I EDC, with features I don't EDC and that I have no plans to carry. It's just 'easier' to work with for the match.

Very valuable points you make..

Thanks for bringing them up.

Just to clarify is this going to be done running a WML or handheld light?

Yes,
I edited the post to clear this up.

FYI,
Before dinner, in dusk we will train with handheld light techniques and weapon mounted light techniques.

Then after dinner, shoot the same events from the day class at night. This allows at least two runs of the same task (day, night) to show the student what the difference is with or without a light.

Ok so what is preventing YOU from attending this class?

I got a lot of tire kickers but I need to close the deal on this great event.

For me, it is the date it is being held. Thanksgiving is a big event for us, with family coming in from all over the country (some I haven’t seen in over a year). Not sure I can carve out 7+ hours for this, even though it sounds like a great class that I would love to attend.

Totally legit reason,
A side item, for any family member who would be interested in attending, you guys and gals can have a hell of a family event with us.

Something to think about...

🤬 I work Thanksgiving this year or else I would be there. It's been some years now but I have taken classes with John before and highly recommend them. I could always use a refresher.

Damn…I’d love to take this class. I don’t think I’ll be be fully recovered from my wreck by then. I won’t have my grip strength back yet. Will you be hosting another, maybe next year?

We will do one more feb-march.

All our might fire classes are in the fall! Winter hours

I’ll be on the lookout for that class. I’ll work on getting a couple friends to go who I know would benefit from it as well.

It was a great and fun way to verify that I have absolutely no skill😂. It was a great class with great instructors. I would take it again. Met some new folks and everyone in the class was great with regards to safety. Looking forward to whatever Division Arms has next.

I enjoyed spending time with y'all!
Running what I have through different scenarios, day and night, showed me multiple weak spots I need to practice, and I need a WML, matching holster, and a mag pouch.
They did a great job of making sure no one felt rushed, and stayed safe.

BTW, @RR makes a funny noise when he gets something a little extra.
Good times

I'm still traumatized and will be filing a sexual harassment complaint.

Great glass as always. Glad to see John, Scott, and Bob back together. The content and length of the class was perfect and the round count matched well with the material. Great opportunity to test out what you carry around every day.

Hopefully, there is another class like this one. I couldn't attend yesterday because it was my son's birthday(they only turn 30 once. :) )

We will.

I just posted my review in the Training AAR Section.

Y’all practiced marching? And that requires a different holster? 😁
