EDC - with weapon light or without ?

Quick question….

If WMLs are so dangerous, why are many of Uncle Sam’s gunslingers equipped with them on rifles, shotguns or sidearms?

Like I said, I don't have an issue with them, philosophically or operationally. One of my EDC guns has one.

I think the main difference is that Joe Civilian outside of the house only draws under threat of imminent danger/loss of life; inside the house, to clear the bump in the night. In the military. the theory is that you are always under threat of imminent danger and that any clearing you do, none if it is your domicile with your family. The counter argument is how many hundreds and hundreds of building did we clear while 'sweeping' a non-hostile until we got things sorted out without blowing good guys to smithereens? The bottom line difference is intent and nature of use.

I see both sides of the argument and I am not sure I care one way or the other.

I think using a weapon light as a flashlight is a good way joining the Alec Baldwin gun club.
“Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction “
I’m not using it as a flashlight. But if I have to use my weapon, th n I have it available.

I have one on mine. Not because I think I am a tactical timmy, but I generally like knowing what I am shooting at. If I have a flashlight handy I will use it instead, however having a WML just gives me one more option. It isnt required to use it, but its nice to have if I need it.

Where did he say he was using it as a flashlight??

I quoted the passage in my post. I did assume he is just doing a barn check (water and hay for animals) not clearing for zombies every night
That’s the problem..

I saw what you quoted. Nothing about what he wrote made think he was using his WML to check out the barn.

Correct. He just gave examples of why he feels having a WML makes sense for him (in case a threat appears while he is doing that activity)

Because they operate operationally. I'm not a cop, and do not do cop or soldier things with my EDC. My rules are different, so my kit is different.

Just to clarify: the wml doesn't make your gun dangerous. Carry one if you want. The gun does make your flashlight dangerous though.

Yes. Can’t shoot what ya can’t see (or identify).

Yes

Too many stories about shooting an intruder in the house and it turns out to be a neighbor or relative.

Target id matters. Obviously you may not have time for that if someone is charging at you but good to have the option.

And yes, I have a separate flashlight for looking at random stuff in the dark.

It's interesting to watch tactical guys train, some who have been involved in gunfights here and 'over there' - and, under just the stress of training, most forget to put the light on their handgun when it would have helped. I'm talking running and gunning drills in tac houses, etc, not during a course of fire, etc.
I once heard a guy that I respect very much, say, "Some put lights on their EDC handguns to go to the food store, but they wouldn't dare wear a helmet while driving in his personal vehicle. Which safety device has the better chance of doing more good?"

As I get older, my carry guns get smaller and I truly want less things attached to them. Just what works for me. There ain't no right or wrong as far as I'm concerned.
