ELR Calibers & Cartridges – What The Pros Use

a lot of the "gamer" cartridges 6mm, 6.5PRC have much shorter barrel life

when competing for points in a series you can win, it's worth it to go through multiple barrels a season

for the average shooter, 6.5 CM strikes a great balance of wear/performance

I still love .308 for inside of 1k plinking

For Extreme Long Range competition, you pretty much need a "gamer" cartridge. Short barrel life is a given. The article noted: "This Wyoming match that Scott has designed is one of a kind, featuring features targets from 700-2100 yards in a wide range of scenarios and conditions." Even though not all rifles could do well at the longest ranges, they had to reliably hit targets at 1500 yards or so.
