Someone had asked me if I knew if the zinc (tula) or copper (wolf) or unknown (Novosibirsk) wash went around the entire bullet or just on the jacket. I had no idea so I pulled some today to see what they looked like.

124gr Novosibirsk, 115gr Tula, 115gr Wolf:

It's the reverse of "reloading" so maybe it doesn't belong here.

Hmm...

Can you check the three pulls with a magnet? Interested to see if there is any steel / iron in the mix.
I have seen sparks off plates using 9mm Tula, so I bet it does attract to a magnet.

The Idea of a "wash" covers the entire bullet, by default (I always thought.)

yep, all three are magnetic.

that's what I thought too, and that's what the guy at the Tula booth at the NRA show said (calling it a 'wash'). Maybe the jacket is washed and then pressed over the core?

Made just like standard FMJ but the use steel jacket material. The wash is only a coating for the steel so that it doesn't rust. I believe TMJ and Plated are the only options that are fully encapsulated
