Can't believe this was on WRAL:

How many lives were saved because of the presence of firearms? You never hear of that side of the story. That recently posted video of a fellow defending himself from some thugs should be listed as a life saved as well as a death.

It appears that the "fact check" section is written by a company called Politifact (www.politifact.com) and is not authored by WRAL. It may be that WRAL's contract with Politifact requires them to publish whatever content Politifact produces. Or maybe Politifact just buys space on the WRAL web site, kind of like Infomercials just buy air time, and Politifact gets paid every time you click on an ad.

Such BS. Dead is dead. Isn't DEATHS the negative here? Why are they only looking at GUN deaths? Of course where guns are outlawed and less available criminals, gangs, and domestic violence perps simply use a different tool.

I know why and you do too. It's not about getting rid of violence and deaths, it must be about getting rid of something else. 🤔

you have to count the deaths.

In any country in Africa who in the hell is counting deaths? Much less by type of death?

total B.S.

and sorry @Amp Mangum but WRAL is more anti gun then the Brady United.

Didn't read the article. But, this has been done multiple times...
A major contributor to the US is suicide.

Countries with the Highest Rates of Violent Gun Death (Homicides) per 100k residents in 2019

  1. El Salvador (36.78)
  2. Venezuela (33.27)
  3. Guatemala (29.06)
  4. Colombia (26.36)
  5. Brazil (21.93)
  6. Bahamas (21.52)
  7. Honduras (20.15)
  8. U.S. Virgin Islands (19.40)
  9. Puerto Rico (18.14)
  10. Mexico (16.41)

The article supports the fact that the US has neither the largest absolute number of gun deaths per year or the highest per Capita rate of gun deaths per year.

I would add my own tidbit that the above can be true and yet still be a problem that we should examine in a reasonable way without kneejerk demands for gun control.

I believe the distinguished senator from Wisconsin simply fell victim to Spellcheck, which mistakenly substituted "gun deaths" for "incompetent criminal stupid politicians ". Correct that mistake, and the statement is correct.

PR and the USVI aren't countries, they are U.S. territories. That said, they both have very restrictive firearms ownership laws which seem to be of little help. So does Bahamas to little avail.

Seems to me that some sort of defensive barrier between us and those more violent countries would be in order. Perhaps with the goal of keeping those n'ere -do-wells from illegally entering our country. ;)
