Fishing Pics ... post your most recent.

That is a Northern puffer. Generally caught with shrimp on a long shank hook. Folks call them Blowfish or the "Chicken of the sea" as their flesh and nugget size looks like a chicken tender. They are skinned like a catfish vs scaled. They are a winter season fish here in NC and are becoming increasingly sought after with folks filling their coolers with them to freeze.

They are not poisonous vs the Smooth Puffer can kill you.

Newbie here… just making my way around some of the post and just found this one… some good fishermen here with some good catches! Here’s a few pics of some catches we had in prior weeks.. there this spot I know where you can catch… lol

For the record … all fish are of legal size / slot limits and we always abide by the creel limits. We also catch and release a ton of fish!

Nice ride out to sea. Smooth sailing in the AM, made it about three miles off the coast of Jupiter Island, FL.

Other than some out of season grouper, it was triggers and grunts up and down the reef, broken up by the occasional tiny yellowtail.

Not complaining at all. Great weather, good fights, lots of action.

Great haul. Where were you fishing?
Launched out of the Newport River ramp (@ Morehead Port / Morehead City to Beaufort bridge). If you use this ramp, go during the week or very very early on the weekend, during the season. It gets packed!!

My first two spots that normally hold nice fish this time of year, was a complete bust. Went over to the Coast Guard station and hit a spot that was productive in years past… it was on 🔥. Please know… I am mentioning a general area. Do not go within 300’ of that dock or buoy setting boat! It’s restricted (posted as well) and they will yell at you and if that doesn’t work, they will send a boat out to run you out or give you a citation

After fishing the station, I drifted the inlet.. picked up a few sea mullet (whiting / kingfish).

In all a good day. Now time for a fresh seafood meal!

Thanks for the update and inspiration!! We are thinking of heading to the coast next week and are trying to figure out where we should go. We want to get out on the kayak and hopefully catch some fish. We are open to anywhere between Carolina Beach and Ocean Isle which is between 3-3.5 hours for us.

Fort fisher is typically nice in a kayak. There is some very shallow water or sandbars there during low tide that you can get hung up on but if you watch the water you should be fine.

Going back out in a bit to check lines we set out yesterday afternoon.

Hopefully, this spot reserved for some decent Pee Dee River cats...

Edit: It was a bust. Only one fish outta 15 lines, but it was an good experience all around.

I hadn't set lines before, so there was that. We brought home a wild pig, and when we went back Friday morning to check the lines, I brought my son in law's son (grandson in law? ). He had never been on a boat in a river, so it was an experience for him, too.

I ran my first charter of the year last week. They booked what would typically be my Spanish mackerel trip but there aren’t really any Spanish mackerel down here yet to speak of so we set out in a near shore bottom fishing trip. I found the sea bass for them but with the trip they booked I couldn’t afford the fuel to run 20-22 miles offshore to get my good spots that hold lots of keepers. First three spots we tried was pretty slow bite and then in the last 2 hours of the trip I finally found them. They reeled in sea bass until they tapped out. We ended up with 8 keeper sea bass, one throw back grouper (out of season), a few more throw back trash bottom fish. They had a good time and came back with dinner for a few nights. 06D495DB-75CD-4C4E-888E-3B9183082B65.jpeg03BCCF93-948C-40A6-94CE-52535FF34C36.jpeg3F4E09AF-C760-45A9-B803-332D6E0852FB.jpeg9D1DC541-8985-46F6-9C2B-922F09046678.jpeg

Somehow I never seem to have my phone/camera with me, but the crappie have been on fire this week.
Caught 4 keepers in half an hour last evening. SIL and his friend caught 18 on lake Greenwood. Had us a big fish fry today!

Very windy today, but a managed to catch one offf the dock this evening. SIL and friend are on lake Russell today....no report yet but
they'll likely fish till dark.
