I am getting ready to build a shop at the new to us house. I am really trying to decide on stick built vs steel. I am looking at the 30x40 range with enough ceiling height for lift and need to make it climate controlled. I need enough heat to keep it above say 50 and want to be able to keep it COOL in summer. What are the pluses and minuses on Metal s stick built.

Insurance on a metal should be cheaper due to less chance of fire or insects.

metal is harder to climate control and without climate control I have condensation and rust issues also with a metal garage make sure the ribs in the roof metal are vertical mine are horizontal and after 1 years I am having issues with the roof rusting where the screws go through it into the rafters. this is the style roof you want https://garagebuildings.com/24x41-metal-garage-building I will get a picture of the roof on mine to show you the issues I have with the roof

Next question is there anyone in the Eden,NC area wanting to build a stick built building or erect a metal building that is part of our members

With the correct insulation and installed correctly. You won't have any moisture issues. I had a 40x60 by Viking maybe a drop here and there but insulation is key

If the materials are aluminum and or stainless, rust should not be an issue........for climate control, go overboard with the insulation. The Metal buildings tend to hotter in the summer and colder in the winter......imsulation is your friend.

Hanging things around on the wall are more of a challenge with a metal building if that is part or your storage plan. Both have there pros and cons and are good options as long as both are well built. Seems if you compare true apples to apples quality they are not to far apart price wise. What ever you get be sure its well insulated to prevent condensation and if its well insulated keeping it to 50 degrees should be pretty easy unless its just bitter cold.

One last thing I saw one time that makes sense is make the A as wide as you can afford and fit you can always add on to one end of it later to make longer but width is much harder.

Thanks guys, I have a quote for a 30 x 40 steel building just not slab and erecting cost. I just need to find somewhere to get a quote on stick built

We just put down a 42x49 concrete pad. Cost was $7250 27 yards

Was that finished and what sort of psi and reinforcement

My only advice...build it bigger. It'll never be big enough.
Jeppoā€™s theory of matter says...

ā€œMatter expands to consume all available spaceā€.

Finished 3k psi/4 inches thick/rebar & fiber strands throughout.

Cheapest quote from 8 companies

Concrete company cost was $135 per yard poured and the $135 per yard finished including grading beforehand

Also before anyone says it looks like it has a slant... That's because it does. Since this is Hay storage there is 2 inchs of fall from the rear to the front. There is also a swell at the door that will run water off the side of it.
