Had a customer bring in a tanker he had bought from the "garand guy". Total junk build with a laundry list of issues.

He sent it back for a full refund.

I ended up building him one from the ground up using a CMP rack grade.

I think he'll be happy...shoots great and runs 100% in 30-06.

If you are interested in one or need regular garand work feel free to contact us.

Tanker builds have always been problematic for the uninitiated. Great news that you can do them properly! Nice to have someone local to do them.

I had one long ago, ran like a champ and was a beautiful rifle.

It wasn't until much later that I learned that they weren't actually issued to tankers

They weren't issued because the US military never made any, prototypes only. Any you see have been produced by the aftermarket.

.

I had an Arlington Ordnance gun in .308 that had an issue with the recoil spring stacking such that it stopped full travel of the oprod and worse, made it impossible to load a clip into the magazine. I finally trimmed some coils off of the spring and then put a cut down T37 flash hider on the muzzle that made it function reliably. If the muzzle device was removed it would short stroke. I guess that the device retarded enough gas at the muzzle to make the oprod function, but I never could scientifically account for it.

I never understood the appeal of 'tanker' Garands. To each his own, I guess.

Got a buddy here whose father owns one (of course it will be his one day anyway) and he decided to take it deer hunting one time near Linville Gorge. He took a major fall and the Tanker Garand slipped from his grasp. He said he wasn't even thinking about injuries or broken bones but ran to pick up and check the rifle...lol...
