I’m interested in finding out whether a grip reduction (and extended mag release) would make a Glock 19 ok for my small hands and short trigger reach. Has anyone in the Triangle done this mod and is willing to let me check it out?

Do you already own the Glock 19? If yes, what gen is it?

Yea, good question.

I have medium hands and short fingers and the G19 is no problemo. I’m curious if @Canyon has a G19, or has even handled and shot one.

If no, definitely try one out first.

If yes, I’m not too much help but consider the G48 (I think).

I don’t own one. I’ve handled one at the gun counter recently (gen 5). It wasn’t toooo bad except for the mag release (maybe an extended mag release would fix that). I shot one years ago, but don’t remember much about it.

I like the capacity of the 19, and it works with my chosen optic HS 509t. Safariland has an RDS ALS holster for Glocks with that optic, which it doesn’t for any other brand except Sig. I need the extra level of retention. So, basically, I’m trying to make the Glock 19 work for my hands.

Don’t be afraid to shift your grip while dropping the mag if the mag release is out of reach with your normal grip. I’d be surprised if this slowed you down a measurable amount once you were comfortable with the gun.

In the thumbnail below, you can clearly see my hand has shifted to the left side of the gun to hit the standard size mag release. I don’t even think about it, it just happens and then I gather a normal grip again when the gun is in front of me.

Just remember, If you do it that gun is yours, No one is going to pay you extra for a Bubba'd pistol.

You might try the gen 5 with the small grip or do what I did, S&W M&P with the small grip.

I have bear paws, big mitts and stubby fingers.

I never liked the grip angle on Glocks, so I sent my 23 out to Arizona Response Systems in the mid-90's. This was the first time I heard of grip change/reduction work. What I got back was not pretty - but it's one of my favorite carry guns to this day, as I shoot pretty well with it (I'm an LE instructor since 1998).

I also tried a Lone Wolf frame, which fits my hand perfectly, but I had an issue with trigger fitment and had a dead trigger during a class. I tapped, racked and BAM!-BAM!, with my trigger finger along the frame. Scary. I put it back in the safe and haven't diagnosed it yet - one day when I have more time.

My suggestion is renting one and shooting it. I have small hands also. MY mane cc gun is glock 43x also have g48 try these do to grip. I'm in Greensboro P.M. me and maybe we can meet and you look at mine.

I have 2 19's. One I have shot in IDPA matches and did some upgrades to. Even though they feel like a 2x4 in my hands, I have shot and dry fired them for many yrs. I also have a 48 that I really like. I shoot/dryfire it often, too. It's grip feels more natural. I still like the 19s, but dont shoot them much anymore.

I did a grip chop/reduction on the 17, to 19 size. It made The Best 9mm Handgun In The World.

But the 19...not a whole lotta room to downsize. I humbly suggest a different gun, or a different frame.

QFT on the bolded part

I have to agree with previous suggestions...I loved the G19 for my smaller hands for years until the G43/48 came out. Now the G19 seems so big around in comparison. I switched to carrying the G48 with 15 round Shield Arms mags and have never looked back.

Resurrecting an old thread:

Does anyone do Glock grip work in WNC? I'd rather drop off/pick up than send it out, and rather give the work to locals.

Thanks.

got to ask, have you tried the G43X or G48, with Shield mags u can match the G19 in firepower, but the grip is already user friendly. Worth trying one out.

No, I haven't tried those models. I'm traditionally not a fan of Glock grips/angles, but a 43 seemed much better. The work done to my 23 in the early 90's is what I'm looking for.

I had this done by a local shop when stippling was kinda' new on the gun forums. A G19 cut to accept G26 mags. I would like it better if the grip heal was cut/reshaped (arrow).

All gen 2/3 love aside, I was pleasantly surprised at the grip reduction in circumference and general improvement in adjustment of grip size of the gen 4. For someone without large hands, this felt significant to me and the 48/43x even more if you are willing to go the aftermarket mag route. It has already been said and I agree; gotta get your hands on them and at least a little range time for confidence before you buy.
