Hey all, I'm trying to diagnose our car but I'm sort of doing it blind. It's an 01 Alero that this morning my wife reported an oil light on. It was a bad part of town and I told her to just keep rolling unless it burst into flames. It is what it is right.

Anyway, I got over to her parking garage after work and the thing is not even registering on the dip stick. Of course, I don't have stands or ramps at this point. From what I could get to and see, I narrowed it down to an area on the front of the engine (closest to radiator). I got three quarts into it and figured I'd start it and see where the leak is. I started it and ran up front to see a stream (like refrigerator water dispenser stream) pissing out of the front of the block and quickly shut it down.

I managed to stuff myself under the car well enough to see the area and I THINK it may be coming from the oil pressure sensor.

My question is, is it not atypical for an oil pressure sensor to go from no problems to shooting oil out in the matter of a few minutes?

It's like a 10 dollar part, is it worth dicking around with in the parking garage to save a $150 tow?

Is there an oil cooler on this vehicle, could be hose leak?

10 bucks and an hour is worth a try before towing. Borrow a jack and stands from someone ckose by.

YouTube and Google are your friend just read a few different sources

I guess I was kinda thinking out loud in this thread. I'll prob just go through with it as the replacement isn't difficult. The parking deck police frown on that sorta thing but I think I'll give it a shot anyhow. Googlefu and youtubez makes it look like I can do it from hood side so we'll see.

Hydraulic jack, jack stands, and wheel chocks are some things you get to use again, and they are shockingly inexpensive at the auto parts houses. If nobody close to you has them, buy once, cry once, get that part changed, and you’ll use those tools again, even if that doesn’t fix it. The price of the tow alone will buy them.

I read it as he didn’t have the jack, stands, and chocks handy rather than not owning them, but I could be wrong.

@frakncylons if you need the above, lmk I’ll run down the road to meet you somewhere. I have all 3.

Edit: OP is all good.
