Quit a good job two months ago to go work for a friend. Last Saturday his partner sends me a text saying the guy and his wife had put him in a spot and made him choose me or them. Being that they did a lot in the company, of course he chose them and terminated me on the spot with no chance of working a notice til I could find a job. Tried to go back to my previous job where they said I'd always have one to find out that "they don't have the work right now to hire anyone". So you see where I'm at. 39 and no job. I'm used to struggles but right now it's even worse because we just bought a home in April. Send me some good vibes that I can land a job soon. Thanks in advance.

Thoughts for a good outcome.

Glad to help, what line of work are you interested in, could help another member give you a lead. Are you on Indeed?

Not on indeed. I've never heard of it. All I've ever done is automotive repair and auto parts. I have 24 years experience in the automotive field. I've done everything from towing, to auto parts store counter person, to restoration.

Indeed is an online aggregator of online job postings, very searchable.

Sorry to hear of this, good vibes headed your way.

Don't let negativity get the upper hand; maybe you can go Shade Tree for some folks you know to keep money flowing while you land the right job.

Good luck, you'll get through this!

I've seen it where the previous employer will say what they've said to you, and then after thinking about it for a couple of days will call you up and say come back.
It'll work out for you. Have confidence in yourself. :) You have a trade that is in demand.

Sorry for the bad news. As a few have said get on Indeed. A lot of employers post on there. Start pounding the pavement to also see what’s out there In your field.

You mention towing, and I dont know a ton about it - but does that require a CDL?
I know someone in Lex looking for a driver - good boss to work for. He's on here and multiple folks on here, myself included, have worked under him.

Under 26,000 pounds, and/ or no air brakes, I don't think you're required and unfortunately I don't have them. I've had several people to tell me I should go get them. I just never have.

Prayers for you to be led to what is meant to be. That sounds weird and "hippy-dippy" but I think things happen for a reason.

Good luck, it’s never a good time to be out of work.

I think this is pretty good advice. Especially if you already have tools.

I have a co-worker that opened a shop in Laurinburg. He still works here because he has a full time mechanic and although he's doing fairly well, he's just not ready to walk away. Plus, he's still fairly young at mid 40s, or so.

So, shade tree until you can possibly rent a shop and maybe pick up someone that can work with you until you get to the point that several people work for you.

All the while, I'm just sitting here at my desk, wishing I knew things like this 30 years ago. Sigh.

Good luck, bro!

Hang in there, a job will find you when you least expect it.

Linkedin is a cool site, easy to use/search for local jobs. You will find a job, and likely better than the last.

Good luck with your search. Hope you find something soon and that is a good fit for you.

Do it...at least get your Class B CDL.

@HMP was right on in what he told you. Good line of work and, imo, pays well for what’s expected of you. I did it for 4 years and have no complaints...it’s a good gig and there will always be a demand for it.

Good vibes brother. Keep the faith, all will work out.

Good luck and prayers. Just another thought and option to look into since you have done automotive work is have you looked into industrial maintaince type work? Several big mfg up in the elkin area. Industrial maintance depending if you go more mechanical side wouldnt be that steep of a learning curve and if you get into electrical side and like computers and programming can do really well and rarely get dirty.

Yes sir! I'm opening my dad's shop back up. It has been closed for four years due to him having a heart attack. He and I talked about it and he told me to go for it. So I'm in the process of getting things straightened out so I can do it. I worked for him for 10 years prior up to few months before his heart attack. I appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. Keep them coming if you don't mind.

What does the shop do and give us an address.

It's an automotive repair shop in Boonville NC. Mayes Speed Shop will be the name of it. When he owned it it was Mayes Auto Service. We also offer damage free towing at a reasonable rate.
Good on you, TM. If I was near you I'd support you for sure. The best way to predict the future is to make the future!
