Hi all from the mountains of western NC.

I got the word from a couple members on another site that this would be a good place to hang out going forward so I've decided to come on over and register an account while I learn my way around. (I'm active on a couple of other firearms related sites as well.)

I'm a retired federal LEO and worked in both NYC and South FL before moving up to NC some years back.
(I guess that makes me a federal half back.) Worked investigations in the U.S. and abroad ranging from international narcotics trafficking and money laundering to undercover ops and international arms smuggling.

I continue shooting pretty regularly with my neighbors on private ranges on their property, and at least annually with the local sheriff's office to maintain my LEOSA certification.

Hope to get to know some of you and happy to be on board.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your service.

Great to have you join up with us and to bring all of that experience to the forum here. Glad to have you aboard with us and please let others know where we are.

Also it's great to see more and more members from the mountain area of the state joining up.

Welcome to a CFF!!

Welcome Blues, glad you found us here (yeah I did that LOL) I didn't realize you were in WNC, where are you? I grew up in Jackson County and spent a great deal of time in Haywood and Buncombe Counties

Mornin', D. I'm in Transylvania county, a few miles outside Brevard. A great area of the state for its natural beauty, (as you would already know), a nice little town and good folks. The area reminded me a lot of the Adirondacks region of upper NY state where I used to backpack, climb and x-c ski a lot during my 35 years living in the boroughs of NYC...(with less snow).

We found the area on our motorcycling and hiking trips back in the 90's and I decided to look for a home up here. (We were in South FL then due to the nature of my work.) Originally was thinking of Bryson City but this turned out to be the better option for us, all things considered.

Wanted to thank all of you for taking the time to offer a warm welcome. I don't take such kindness lightly. I'll do my best to contribute where I can.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Beautiful country you are living in now.
One of these days, I shall retire to the mountains of NC or some other state...

Hiya, Wolfie. Good to see you. And thanks.

Wolfie was one of the first to greet me at the "other" location, and is also a generous soul. (I know from personal experience.)

Greetings Sir and welcome to CFF! Happy to have you here.

I suspect I know you from the local Rifle & Pistol club...I RSO the rifle range at the Asheville club 2nd Fridays (today). Welcome to the forum!

Tim, if you're speaking of the facility on Brevard Rd. I've never shot there but did make an inquiry some months ago. (I was informed that membership was full and I didn't pursue it further by attending any meetings at the fire dept. as it's close to 30 miles away from where I'm located and I do have the opportunity to shoot on neighboring property, though not at great distances due to trees and topography. That may change soon based upon an offer from a recent friend who has a rifle setup on his large acreage.)

I do occasionally shoot at Bear Arms but primarily with the sheriff's office for LEOSA, once or twice on my own to zero a gun.

If we haven't met perhaps we'll remedy that down the line.

Again, thank you all. I'm humbled by the number of responses.

Well then! Welcome! Your bio reads very much like another new guy in town that I met that the Asheville club. I'm just down the road from you in Etowah (between Hendersonville & Brevard). It's a good bunch of folks here.

Membership at the Asheville club is no longer closed.

Thanks for the update on the club. I'll keep it in mind. And yep, I know right where Etowah is.

Looks like a friendly bunch. I may have to be on my best behavior. :p

I am just joining the Asheville Rifle and Pistol Club, great folks, great place. Hope to meet more of the WNC folks on this forum.

I'm RSO'ing there this afternoon, on the rifle range, if you want to come on out.

Hey Tim, can't do today but I'll look for you on the schedule to introduce myself. Thanks very much!

Howdy and welcome. Hope you have found a home here. Be sure to tell a friend or twenty.

Well, I just logged out and quit NCGO. I found out by sending myself a PM that the URL of this site was automatically being filtered and changed to "some other site".

I foolishly thought the "P" in "PM" meant "Private" until someone reported this earlier. Well, they can pound sand. Good riddance to the site and its new owners...and not a moment too soon.

Thanks Wolfie and DesignMine for sending me here.

Hey, it worked. Go free speech!
