You guys ever been there? The place has 2 main entrances, one for the bakery and one for the café. The door to the bakery is posted and the door to the café is not. You can not get from the bakery to the café and vice versa (at least not as a customer).

I don't think that is properly posted for the café since there are also some side entrances which are not posted as well. I do not believe I am obligated to:

- check all doors to look if any of them are posted
- obey a sign that is on a door leading to a different part of the building that does not connect to the rest

Opinions?

The cafe has separate hours (separate business run by the same owners), so if it is not posted then I consider it ok to carry.

You also need to be aware that the forum extends well beyond Durham, so many won’t understand the logistics of what you are talking about.

This is what the law actually says (emphasis by me)...

On any private premises where notice that carrying a concealed handgun is prohibited by the posting of a conspicuous notice or statement by the person in legal possession or control of the premises.

Use Guglfu to look up conspicuous. :)

Well I figured the forum is NC centered and the place is easy enough to look up.

I also think that café and bakery are most likely separate business entities since they also have separate application forms.

I'd think that usually means put a sign on the doors?

To me, it would mean a HONKIN’ sign on every possible entrance door.

Some McDonald’s stores have begun posting a gun buster decal about 1” diameter. At least I’ve heard they have ‘cause I don’t remember noticing one. ;)

I saw some in SC posted with a little decal, in a pretty long row with all the other little decals forbidding this and that and the other thing....lol. Dang!

I’m pretty sure that SC, unlike NC, has legal language imposing the size of a sign.

Yup, here’s the language..

S.C. Code Ann. § 23-31-235 23-31-235. Sign requirements. (B) All signs must be posted at each entrance into a building where a concealable weapon permit holder is prohibited from carrying a concealable weapon and must be: (1) clearly visible from outside the building; (2) eight inches wide by twelve inches tall in size; (3) contain the words “NO CONCEALABLE WEAPONS ALLOWED” in black one inch tall uppercase type at the bottom of the sign and centered between the lateral edges of the sign; (4) contain a black silhouette of a handgun inside a circle seven inches in diameter with a diagonal line that runs from the lower left to the upper right at a forty five degree angle from the horizontal; (5) a diameter of a circle. (C) If the premises where concealable weapons are prohibited does not have doors, then the signs contained in subsection (A) must be: (1) thirty six inches wide by forty eight inches tall in size; (2) contain the words “NO CONCEALABLE WEAPONS ALLOWED” in black three inch tall uppercase type at the bottom of the sign and centered between the lateral edges of the sign; (3) contain a black silhouette of a handgun inside a circle thirty four inches in diameter with a diagonal line that is two inches wide and runs from the lower left to the upper right at a forty five degree angle from the horizontal and must be a diameter of a circle whose circumference is two inches wide.

I'm going to print that out!

So what are we concluding by now? Not legally binding?

I don’t know the place you’re talking about. If you wanna be squeaky clean, why not enter where there is no conspicuous sign? If challenged, “Sign, what sign?”

Had a lot of brunches with friends and a lot of business meetings with clients at the Guglhuph. Great food, great coffee, and the pastries are fantastic. It's a nice place to sit outside and eat when the weather is good.

No, I don't agree with (what I can only assume are the majority of) their politics, but welcome to Durham.

I try not to go places where I am not welcome. Sometimes it is necessary, but sorry i didn't see your sign cause I was holding the door for an elderly woman, distracted by the wet floor sign , distracted by the pretty lady...whatever.

Place looks gay as hell anyhow, TBH.

Always hear about how great places like this are, get dragged along, end up eating some sort of bread or pastry that is a stone hard, flavorless piece of imported crap.

In this age of diversity and inclusiveness we are all expected to celebrate a multitude of crap. It seems that you are negligent in your new age indoctrination / training ?

And oh yeah ....i still got a dozen of them apple cinnamon things in my safe.

I'll watch tranny porn before I eat a scone (it's an overpriced cruton with potpourri in it. I don't want anybody else to find out the way I did).
