Hello!
What is the vibe for gun clubs in NC? Are they out there? What do they do? I'm interested!

In the southern Wake/Northwest Joco Area!

Thanks yall!

Hi! They are out there, I am a member at the Durham Pistol and Rifle Club for example.

Woody’s in New Hill, southern Wake. Whether it will be open long term or the land sold is a perpetual question. Caters to pistols and rifles.

Also PSR, formerly Range 37 just below Lillington in Harnett county.

Here's a list, in no particular order, without regard to what you can shoot. Some might not still be open.

Durham County Wildlife Club
Durham Pistol and Rifle
Sir Walter Gun Club
Coharie Shooting Club
Woody's
PSR
H2O Fowl Farms
Deep River Shooting School
Kidd's Place
The Range at True North
Personal Defense and Handgun Safety Center
Triangle Shooting Academy
OnPoint Shooting

There are others farther away from you.

Many require memberships of some type, so do your research.

Here's what I got within 40 miles of me, and then 80 miles of me.

Find someone with some land in Willow Spring and I’ll organize a gun club!

Not to discourage you from founding the most absolute perfect and profitable gun club in the area, but there are 72 places to shoot within 80 miles of me. I'd have to pass about ten on the way to Willow Spring. At least sample the clubs in the area for a few years to determine whether they have deficiencies other than the distances from you.

Well I live near Fuquay and range options for a laid back fun day of economical shooting where you can use pistol and rifle are not great. That is the most “politically correct” way I can phrase it. Yes there are ranges here but they’re either a long drive, too expensive or don’t allow rifles. Sorry but an hour drive each way is NOT close by…There’s a free Wake County indoor range that can be an enjoyable experience but the online pre-reservation of lanes and the wait outside until the RSO lets you enter kinda kill the enjoyable feeling it used to have where you could just walk in… bs… pay for a lane and go shoot as long as ya want. If there were an outside range in WS I’d try it out.

EDIT- If I were closer to Salisbury or DPRC those ranges are nice. It’s my location that kill it for me. Farther west in NC has wonderful options.

This is what I have found. Wake county is about the closest and they are strict. And same here, 45 minute drive is not close at all. I used to shoot IN MY BACK YARD. So I’m looking for somewhere I can go after I get home from work. I have 2 small children and a working nurse wife. So proximity is important. Another thing, I am not looking for any kind of profit, just community. Shoot, if someone around wanted to charge $10 for me to use their range a day, I wouldn’t mind paying the owner.

I have a range behind my house that I’ve used since I was 10 but with all the developments and the new Wake County shooting range restrictions that were just implemented I have to stop using it. New houses are being built that are now within 300 yards of my range. It’s through thick woods and has a huge berm and ridge in between but still doesn’t matter… they’re within the limit.

If you have a berm, I would just keep using it til someone called the cops. Not sure what the laws are about that but I used to shoot on an acre with neighbors and a backstop. About half of the people down my path would shoot in their back yard, with backstops and woods behind them. Last time I shot, I had a sheriff show up and just said that he wanted to make sure we were safe and had a backstop. Moral of the story is that I don’t think the sheriffs care that much about enforcing the nitty gritty if you are shooting with safety and common sense.

OR, you could approach the builder to see if they are a 2A person. Then have them write in a loophole in their contracts for an agreement:
  1. It is unlawful for any person to discharge any firearm within 300 yards of any dwelling owned and/or occupied by another unless the person first procures the written permission of the owner or occupant of the dwelling.

Huge builder so they don’t much care. I have an enormous berm that is 4 times taller than the regulation. I paid a good bit for it . I even put a side berm so even a negligent discharge to the side would be stopped. I did all that work AFTER the new regs only for the builder to add another row of houses lol

Darn. That stinks. Well I would still use it…. Lol

I live near Fuquay and Woody's is a 35 minute drive from me. It is membership only but is rarely full, especially on weekdays. Sometimes I am the only one there.

I used to live in Holly Springs, I was a member of woodys for years and it was a 20 minute drive to it. Great outdoor space for all types of firearms.

A bit of a hump from you but the Burlington area also has the RAD Tange and Event Center.
I think they currently go out to 400 yds.
50 yd pistol range w/steels.
Day passes as well as memberships.

Just joined Woody's a few weeks back. Nice place and pretty low key.
FYI - No braced pistols are permitted without a tax stamp. I know that caught a few people off guard at the orientation.

It's a bit of a haul from southern Wake, but Frontline Defense is a very nice outdoor facility up in Centerville.

I think I would start the paperwork for a couple of suppressors. What the neighbors don't know can't hurt you.

Is Drake Landing in Fuquay an option for the shooting / practice you are trying to accomplish? I know they allow pistol, 22 rifle, skeet/clay shooting.

Does anyone know of any clubs or outdoor ranges in WNC?
There is foothills shooting complex that is a great place for anyone its just pretty far away for me. I know of a few clubs but they are members only and don't seem too open to people that aren't friends of members.

If you’re gonna pack a lunch and shoot all day, go visit Coleman’s Creek in Ellerbe. Nicest steel plate range around, several rifle ranges, with one going out to 1 mile. It isn’t cheap, at $500 per year🤑🤑
