I was in Cabelas the other day and had the chance to play with the new Kimber Micro 9 mini 1911-ish pistol. I really want one but was wondering if anyone has one that they have put rounds down range with yet and their impressions of it.

After the Solo, I'm not interested in anything not a full-sized 1911 from Kimber...

I'd been reading online reviews on it and it seems to have high marks. Most of the reviewers talk about the failure of the Solo and that Kimber went back to "the basics" with the Micro9.

I was hoping for some first hand local experience with them though....

I would definitely want to see a few make it through a BUG match before I'd even consider it after the solo...

they are on sell at Sportsmans outdoor for $499, got mine, just haven't had a chance to shoot it yet

I've been interested since sportsmans started offering them at the $500 mark. As for the solo. I've never owned one but I have rented one from the local range and it functioned fine with factory ammo. I haven't seen a micro 9 in person yet. I have seen the micro 380 and looks like a pretty nice little pocket gun.

The micro9 is very similar to the .380 (obviously) but to me it looks better.

I recently made the move to carrying a Sig 938, which is basically the same gun. The only differences I see are the Sig has a checkered front strap, an external extractor, and nite sights are standard on all their models I believe. Looking at the specs on the two guns there is very little difference. You can even use the Sig mags in the Kimber including the extended 7 rounder but that one has to be slightly modified to lock in.

I really like the Sig. Its very light weight so it carries well, accurate, and runs all ammo very well. I switched to it from a Beretta Nano that I had carried for years mostly because I could shoot the Sig way faster and more accurately from the first time I picked it up. The trigger is a little heavy at about 7.5lb break, but its short, sort of crisp and resets quickly so it doesnt feel that heavy while shooting it.

To make sure I was making a positive change I took both the Nano and 938 to the range, set up a few IDPA targets, got the timer out, and went to it. There was really no contest, the 938 was faster and more accurate everytime. I could hold better groups at 25 yds with the Nano, but that was the only advantage it had.

Look forward to hearing more about the Kimber, hope you enjoy it.
