Heartbreak Ridge

When I was in JROTC in high school I had a retired First Sargent that made Highway look tame.......
Watching it now makes me laugh, a LOT

To me it is my favorite Eastwood movie. Classic characters, excellent acting and great storytelling. I know it's not high plains drifter, Dirty Harry or The outlaw Josie Whales(Boring) but it just hits right.

I love that movie. When I watch it though, I see one of the other characters as the werewolf in Silver Bullet

Great movie

While I liked the movie when it came out - ironically the same year that I joined the USMC - I found the portrayal of the RECON Marines as silly and extremely unprofessional, undisciplined children to be absurd and largely not enjoyable.

I still get a kick out the production company trying to pass off Pendleton as Lejeune........
And El Toro as Cherry Point......

this is lost on much of the country. I'm in that group.

Also, you know it must be a good movie because people are doing everything they can to make it look bad

Both bases don't have mountains in the background lol

Dude that wrote that wrote that article has no idea what Marine Corps culture was like.......

Hell, I didn't hit the FMF until 97, and it hadn't changed that much.........

Damn I'm getting old.......

If you just look at regular pictures from that time - seeing a dude in short shorts and no shirt was normal. that was the style at the time. no homo, that's just what people wore.

I liked the movie; I still do. But I totally agree about the portrayal of recon. How they incorporated the platoon in the battalion, yeah, that did not make sense.

Drove me nuts.

I was a senior in high school when it came out, I wrote for the school paper and a monthly (I think) article for the Durham Herald-Sun in their area high school section. I did a review, they liked it so much they published it in their Friday entertainment section.

So much wrong with that movie, the mountains of Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point just part of it. That's why I wrote the review. In spite of all the 'bad', I still like it, very much. It...endures.

Loved the movie. Came out about the time I was able to differentiate between "hollywood" and "how it really is" but I still loved it. Even at the time I was like "There aint no way a recon unit would be this poopsandwiched."

But so many awesome one liners..."This is the AK47. It makes a distinct sound when fired at you."

i watched this and also full metal jacket over the weekend. noticed "drop your cocks and grab your socks" was used in both films. ive seen them both many times, but never realized that phrase was in both of the films.
