Have things changed? Once upon a time, if you wanted good parts you went to Napa or factory parts. A rule of thumb was not to buy alternators or starters from anywhere but Napa or factory.

Drastically, I've yet to find quality parts anywhere, stealerships included

So where do you source them?
Depends on what I'm looking for, ignition switch, something from a reputable manufacturer like standard. Key switch, prolly oem

I've been using AutoZone premium alternators and starters, lifetime warranty. All good. I have then test it before I take one home, one starter had a bad winding, my wife was getting to know the tow truck driver. 😃

@49erRider find an alt/starter repair place...have them build/rebuild what you have.....just make sure and find reviews or get some word of mouth about them. One key factor to look for is find the one all the farmers/equipment mechanics use. If you walk in and the person behind the counter /doing the work doesn't come off as oddball with a few loose screws it's a gamble....

This is what I do. I have a guy in Charlotte that rebuilds my starters and alternators. He's way cheaper than anything from a local parts store, and so far, all is good. I have 2 alternators he's rebuilt for me that is going on 5 years old, and they are rockin and rollin. I know that's not long, but that's the longest in service I have from him, and, it was $90.00 OTD.
Also, on the key cylinder. make sure she doesn't have a 100 keys and trinkets hanging off of the key ring that's in the car. A bunch of stuff weight hanging on the key in the cylinder is not good for them, lol.

Got hit hard with a bug and have been knocked out since Wed so didn’t come back to update. But anyways.

Left work for A minute, met the tow truck on Tuesday. Went back to work. When I got home I got the 1 day old starter off and immediately saw what was wrong.

A nice chunk of medal that doesn’t belong!

Anyways the good thing about having to do a job twice is the second time you are way faster. So got the ”old” one off and the new one in within an hour and smooth sailing sense.

Spare part! Never a good sign.

I hope it's not part of the ring gear.

It looks like brand new metal, I’m thinking something broke loose from inside the starter itself.

You did well. It must have been nice to look in there and see the bendix jammed up and KNOW that's the problem?

You get valuable points today!
