I need to design a stage for an upcoming Night Ops Run-n-Gun. Looking for ideas and comments.

Parameters
- 100 yards max distance
- 90 second par time
- MUST be runnable safely with NODS or White Light
- Little to no reset
- No crazy scenario that takes the RO forever to explain to a dude/dudette that just got done running a mile in the dark with all his kit.
- Carbine and/or pistol

Could be set up in a patch of woods or a pistol bay.

Aaaaaanndddddd.......GO!

How wide are we talking, number of obstacles, standing, prone positions.

I've used hay/straw or cotton bales for backing, but kinda liked the pallets better

I think everyone always loves shooting steel! So my suggestion would be 10-12 static steel targets from 10-45 yds with the furtherest being fairly small. two shots on each with the handgun. Maybe position a couple where they need to be headshots. Then transition to rifle and have 5-8 steel targets out to 100 with 3 shots each. If possible have a challenge target at the longest distance like a hostage target whee the head flips and make them flip it three times.

Steel would be good for night ops...
Maybe from the go box, take 2 shots at each target, then safe and run 10-15 meters to another go box, there are 3 targets of varying difficulty that are "zombies" (headshots only) then on to a 3rd go box with something similar.

The most enjoyable night shoot that I ever participated in was one where the only course lighting was from a ambulance's light bar. We sat in a chair with the light bar over our heads, and we had to time the shot with the strobe rotating around and lighting the target every second or so.

In a way it was reminiscent of shooting a Texas star type of target. Was a helluva lot of fun and challenging.

Good ideas. I'd need to scale back the round counts though. We're trying to keep the TOTAL round count for the run under 50 rifle and 50 pistol across 5 stages. These RnG matches are more in-line with "SHTF" or "Get Home" scenarios vs. 3-Gun stages.

So, part of running a NightOps version is to get people using and testing their gear for 'real world' situations. For example, at the run last weekend (team run), Shooter 1 'got shot' and had to be dragged across the range to an aid station by Shooter 2. Shooter 2 then had to apply a tourniquet. All on the clock. THEN both shooters had to clear a couple steel targets at 100 yards.

The idea is to introduce some stress and get people thinking and doing rather than just shooting.

You have to navigate by Nods to the gun counter and see if they have any ammo. Repeat 12 times before you are handed a loaded mag which costs $700. Shoot one round.

I've always enjoyed RnG stages where collecting intel along the way helps you get bonuses. For example, have a sign between stage 1 and stage 2 that says "green yellow red", then have those color targets at stage 4. If you shoot them in that order you get a time bonus.

Or do math problem during the stage.

That sort of thing. Lots of possibilities.

When is the next match and where do they do them?

Start in a car...lights off in a faux "house". Scenario: Your wife called as you are pulling in the drive way, there is a man with a weapon inside that just busted in the back window. She is hiding in the bedroom, but can hear him.

Stage a "car" with shooter sitting. At buzzer must exit vehicle, run at least 10-20 yards to the first door...inside is a faux shoothouse. 1 target inside is bad guy, 1 target inside is wifeypoo. If shooter does not make a solid hit on the "bad guy" within 90 seconds, his next call is to find out that there is currently a casket shortage and his wife will be getting a used shoe box.
