Henry Single shot rifles next month.

MSRP $427-$549.

While working at the gun store, I learned most people would buy a single shot because that's what they could afford ($100-$150). So, I don't understand what Henry is trying to do here.

Well, if you want a single shot these days, your options are a used NEF, used H&R or a new Henry. Limited choices, so they can charge more.

There are very few people that want a single shot. If they had that kind of money to spend most would buy a Savage Axis, Ruger American or something similar. More versatility and capacity for less money.

Wouldn't a single shot rifle be the perfect tool for deer? Seems a $500 or so rifle that is accurate and in a good caliber would be perfect for a cost conscious hunter. Then again, I am not really a hunting guru so maybe I am full of crap.

Sad that other American gun company is going under. For the price, they were a hard utility rifle to beat. Ones that I have shot had Thompson Center Encore accuracy but less than half the price.

Some people love the Ruger #1. I happen to be one of them.

But yeah Henry is probably gambling a bit with these singles

Don't forget CVA still makes good single shot rifles for cheap. At big box stores they start out at $200 with rings already on them. While the Henry's look great, I would never spend that much for a single shot rifle when there are so many better options in that price range. I've got a couple of single shot H&R rifles, and it is solely because I got them stupid cheap due to H&R no longer making them.

Better options or cheaper options?

I'd say better and cheaper considering the Henry's are set to sell from $427-$549. They are a novelty for a single shot at that point. I have no doubt that their quality will be excellent though.

When I wanted a single shot, I bought a Merkel K3 3006. Never regretted it. Its my go to rifle. Wound up selling most everything else after the fact, because even the best of the bolt actions I had couldn't compare in any way to that lovely 6 1/4 lb Merkel. Made me a better shooter and hunter having only one shot.

Nice rifle.

Merkel K3 is fine looking Sharps40! I'd sell most of everything else as well.

Beautiful rifle. That was my point earlier. A high quality single shot seems ideal for deer hunting. And if the Henry's are good or very good quality for around $500 it seems like a nice offering. I don't see a downside for a go to deer rifle.

Yep. Any rifle "could" do. But as I got older and decided that there was a way I wanted to hunt and shoot....deliberately, thoughtfully, carefully, relaxingly.....etc.....a single shot was the only option that made sense. Tried a buncha different kinds.....the K3 was tops in everything from looks to fit to weight and style. Its a have it the rest of my life rifle, so, why not!

Given what I've seen of henry's, their single shot should do nicely.

Is Rossi still making single shots? I can see a lot of folks unwilling to pay $400+ for a Henry going to them.

Yep. But only if affordability is the ONLY factor.

Hollow cheap plastic butt-stock. Other than looking and feeling like crap, they generally kick the snot out of the poor beginners that otherwise well wishing folks have placed these guns in the hands of.

Plastic safety lever on a break open single shot single action rifle. Who in the world puts a safety on a single shot single action? We'll, I guess if Heritage Arms did it on a revolver you can get away with it on anything.

Ugghh. No thanks.

A used Henry in some oddball caliber for around $350 seems just the kind of thing I might perk up for. But I'm a little weird too, so whatever!

CVA makes great budget single shots. Cabelas carries them for $200 with scope rings already on the compact model and Academy has them for $230 already scoped. I can't justify $427 for a single shot much less $4200.

Plenty of decent bolt actions can be had in the $500 range. I hate to sound blood thirsty but it is pretty common for me to drop 2-3 does in one sitting when meat hunting. Also it is fairly common for a a buck you didn't see to pop out after a shot and look around. I had a gorgeous Ruger #1 that was very accurate and fun to shoot but being it was a 22-250 and had such nice wood I sold it to my uncle as opposed to mess it up in the deer woods. I think I paid $650ish for it and came out way ahead.

I have not seen the Henrys but with some shopping you can find a used Ruger #1 or one of the Winchester/Browning rolling blocks for close to the listed price.

Single shot is a much different kind of shooting and hunting. Its one you choose when you've made up your mind to take just one good shot.

If decide to shoot a deer I have allready made my mind up to take one good shot
I just like to be ready in case things dont go as planned. Mr Murphy is allways around and my hunting time is limited.

Single shot shooters destroy Murphy!

This is one of those circular discussions. It'll go no where...sort of 3030 vs 32 special....which is better?

I suppose its just nice to know that another Manufacturer is going to release a new product to the shooting public.

32 Special ftw. I have found most gun discussions tend to be circular.
