@localguy,

Welcome to the CFF family!

Welcome Aboard !!! My suggestion is to not be afraid to ask questions. We all have been rookies at one time. We have a great set of men and women here with much experience and skills who are happy to give advice and suggestions. Second is you have to have thick skin sometimes and take what is said with a grain of salt and not think we are judging. Third is Enjoy the forum, there is lots of info to take in and learn if you so desire TG2002

Will do. Thank you

One other thing that I would add is don't get in a rush to buy a gun. Find an instructor that you can relate to, and then try out several different brands and models before making the plunge. If you get an instructor that you can't relate to, then find one that you can. There are a lot of fish in the ocean....

Not all guns are the same. They fit your hand differently, have various different designs and features, and you also want to take into account what your plans are for the firearm. My first choice for daily concealed carry is not necessarily the same as my favorite choice for target shooting. If you're interested in a gun for self defense, then I'd advise that you don't get a "cheap" gun, as they may have quality problems that result in failure when you need them the most. Instead consider an "inexpensive" used reliable gun in good condition.

Best of success to you. Firearms ownership and usage can be an enjoyable past time.

Where should i start? Looking for budget starter hand gun. Do’s and don’ts when buying a hand gun. Is there a guide here?
I shoot a lot and I have a couple of options for you to try before you buy a handgun if you’d like to meet up at a range? We can meet up at Guns Plus or 37 PSR. You cover the range fees and ammo, and I’ll bring 5 different pistols you can try out.

My votes on an IWI Masada for rock solid reliability and overall feel. Much better shooter with the Masada than I’ve ever been with a Glock. If you meet up with cotto_dmks I’ll also meet you at the range and bring a couple different pistols for you to try out.

Welcome and thanks for joining up with us here. We're hoping you'll find this site to be the very best internet hangout ever. Please reach out to others you know to join up with us here also.

And thanks for posting inside this thread so we can extend a CFF welcome and get to know you!

We're SO MUCH MORE than a firearms forum!

If you cannot take this advice, and find your pressure building because of a perceived slight, then just compose a lengthy diatribe and wait until Friday to post it. We will all be happy to help you, if you will only express yourself! 🤣

Welcome!

Don't EVER do a bill of sale! :)

... I am just yanking your chain. It is a long standing flame war topic in here.

I don't know what your time frame for purchasing a handgun is. I would say that, depending on your budget and time frame, you could hardly do wrong by buying one of the lower end CANIK models. They are Turkish clones of the CZ and are very very reliable shooters. You might have to wait for one to show up in the for sale ads. Failing that, a glock 19 or 17 are just plain dependable and fairly price competititve.

What do you want to do with the handgun?

Welcome!
It helps to be drunk when you post that diatribe. I myself do not drink to excess, but I manage to make up for it with word count.

@localguy Welcome. I wish you the best of luck with finding your first handgun. Many good folks here with good advice and several wise guys, but almost all of them are good people. Just count on losing 20% or more on every purchase or sale of whatever you are buying or selling and then keep that in mind when doing either. Buying from individuals can be sketchy. Buying from some gun shops can be sketchy. Find people that you can shoot with and that you trust to give you honest feedback. Start shooting IDPA or any other type of competition as soon as you are able. You will see a lot and learn a lot. You can also gain access to a large community that wants to help you. Best of luck.

I’d say check out the stickies first. But nobody reads those.
