so I've go a glock 45 I want to mount an optic to. I'm torn between the 507C and the SCS. This would be my first optic so I was leaning more towards the 507c because of the larger window, but the SCS is just made for it and doesn't use a plate. Let me know what yall think

I prefer the 507C because I am not a fan of auto-brightness settings. If you don't care about the inability to set a static brightness, then there's really no reason not to get the SCS other than the inability to transfer it to another pistol.

so yall dont think the larger window would be that big of a deal to a new red dot user?
No. Regardless of window size, you will want to practice your draw enough that finding the center of the dot becomes muscle memory. If you are having to always stop and fish for the dot, then its doing more harm than good. I have Holosun in both the C and K series footprints, and don't find the K series all that much more difficult despite the size difference. If this were a competition optic, then you'd want something bigger than both of those anyways.

Having a big window is nice but it's not a replacement for muscle memory and practice.

I do like the 507c more but also find high mounted optics to be annoying. Everything has it's trade offs though.

thanks guys! Looks like its the SCS
Do you have anyone who will let you try any red dot optic nearby? The only thing I caution is that if you have astigmatism (which many people do but don't realize that), the starbust/blurry dot effect usually becomes more pronounced at higher brightness levels. A common complaint I see for the SCS is that it may be too bright for some, and that could make it borderline unusable for someone with astigmatism. If that's not a consideration, then you're in good shape.

I DO have an astigmatism but I'm getting ready to head to the Dr to get it checked out. I've got a Sig Romeo that I'm bringing in to the appointment 🤣. And I was going to go with green since that seems to help some people with it

Regarding big window, I actually practice with a 22/45 with a Holo K sized red dot (Riton MPRD) and like that it has a smaller window to drive me to be better.

I don’t have experience with other Holosuns but I helped a friend install an SCS on his new MOS pistol while I was working on getting a non-MOS slide cut (shipping it back and forth for milling, paying for new sights, etc). In theory his set up may be less robust than mine (it was definitely cheaper!) but I was pretty impressed with the SCS. No adapter plates, no batteries, his normal irons worked because the SCS is so low, he just ordered the optic and we installed it that day vs waiting weeks for shipping and slide refinishing etc. It seems like it just worked and was so easy to install. If I was doing it again and had an MOS model I’d be very tempted to go with an SCS…

I'd go 507 just for the replaceable battery. I don't really see the integral super capacitor being the benefit people think it is.
