Home defense weapon (with children in the home)

If you don't want your kids downrange in a HD situation you'll need to rearrange your home to your advantage. I have a friend who cannot do this so his HD weapon of choice is a Katana. I think I'd rather get shot TBH.
Tell him to make sure he has a carbon steel katana, or else this will happen:

If he paid less than $200 for it, I'd be concerned.
In a confined doorway, a Roman Gladius is probably better. :p

Yeah my buddy is a blade nerd too. It's probably not even a katana but that paints the picture. I’ve even heard stories about folks arming up with spears and such for HD and using them successfully. Point is, there are other effective weapons that don’t poke holes all the way through your house.

I was given a tour of Bo Randall's home and orange grove by The Man himself. Inside his front door was what looked to me like a Samurai Sword. He said it was several hundred years old at the time, 1982.

“...Spears and such...” “Point is...”. I see what you did there. :p

More inclined to grab the M590A1 stoked with 9rds of 00 from under the bed, but there's also a G26 beside me in the nightstand. That will change soon once I put my G34 & Shockwave through their paces, but both equipped with lights & Vortex Venom on the Glock. Once my can gets outta jail, my .300BLK SBR will get a 8" barrel & stay loaded with subsonics & suppressor mounted & become a 'bump in the night' gun.

Have a plan, make sure your family knows what's what & do the best you can with what you have.

I am of the .223/5.56 persuasion, even though I'm an AK guy. - I have read some very good arguments for it in a HD scenario, so it's what I use and train with for that purpose.

I'd probably use 5.45x39 if I had that caliber, but I don't. Only due to the reason I trained with that style of rifle the most. - Although I've done a lot of work with the M4 and MK18 a lot recently.

Less wall penetration with a good SD ammo over 9mm and 12ga 00BK, and more capacity. - G19 w/33rd and light (in hand) would be my second choice. - FBI scan, to neck index, bang bang bang

Maybe one of those little 30 round 22 mag Keltec pistols? I think they worked the kinks out.
