Hooooooray for Pals

Phillip just got
@BatteryOaksBilly , Iā€™m ready to try that new 500 load. @Tommiegirl lost a little knuckle skin on your single action, but never complained; just said sheā€™d hold it tighter next time. Iā€™m looking for a big revolver, because we both liked it!
Phillip just got in a 500 S&W Performance Center today.

I always read the Battery Oaks posts and wish I was there to enjoy them my self. However, this may be the first, and only, time I'll be glad to be elsewhere.

I'm sure that @Michael458 will get every ounce of pressure out of those loads. But, @BatteryOaksBilly , make sure that you shoot equal rounds east to west as you do west to east. With everything else going on, you wouldn't want to get the earth's rotation out of whack.

The last time I did this for @BatteryOaksBilly was March 2014. It was a 4 inch gun, but 1 inch of that was compensator. In reality, 3 inches of 500 S&W. I first test the 340 CEB Raptor it runs 1641 fps, but is a bit sticky, so I drop the charge.
The next test it ran 1574 fps, and not pleasant at all.

I moved to the 400 gr Solids. I had 5 rounds loaded. I fired 3 and almost dropped the gun and could not hold it any longer. I had pulled a tendon in my right hand. It was 6 months before I could fire a 22 LR Handgun. The tendon did not grow back properly, and is still extended, one can see it and feel it. Today the heaviest revolver load I can shoot is 45 Colt at 950/1000 fps. I can shoot 45 ACP no issues. But nothing heavier. After those last 3 rounds the 400 gr Solids read 1420 fps, from a 3 inch gun.

Now I will leave it up to you guys, you can have all the fun you want. I have everything, and will start putting them together tomorrow..........................

I am sticking to big bore rifles........ Thank you Very Much.

@BatteryOaksBilly I remember you telling me once about someone firing a .357 Magnum S&W and it cracked like a rifle. At least, I think it was a .357, and I think it was a S&W,....hell, it might not have been you that told me about it.

We are off to a good start this morning on this project..........................

D.W. The Don Carroway. Model 28 with 110s going bout 4,000FPS šŸ¤£

My buddy blew the bottom of the barrel out of his 500 a couple of months back, bent the ejector, think the frame and cylinder is good. Don't know if it was a squib or a HOT load. I'm thinking squib looking at it. He's gonna send it back to Smith see if they will fix it.

They will...........................................doesn't mean they won't Charge him!!

I love big bore revolvers...44 is fine.....45 better....50 best.
I have a beautiful Pre 29 4 screw 4 inch blue that I love. I have 629s no dash guns. None of the S&Ws will take what the Colt Anaconda will or a Red Hawk.
All of the above Pale in comparison to a 45 Colt loaded to maximum. Talking strictly shooter comfort . These are worst to me than a Loaded 500. Mainly because of the size of the damn thing.
I have a 3 1/2 inch 45 Colt Freedom Arms gun that you will Stop shooting to get to the 500. Mikes's .45 Colt load is a 300 grainer going 1,600+ fps outta 16 inch barrel. The little FA gun will fit in your palm and is seemingly indestructable.
Remember when Elmer "invented" the 44 mag, he didn't Want a 44. The problem was he had blown up so many 45s he was hunting for more steel between chambers. .429 will allow that, .454....not too good. If Elmer had a Freedom Arms SA in .45 Colt, we probably never would have heard of a 44 Magnum.
