Got a big ol’ hornet nest up in a tree in my backyard. They don’t bother me and I don’t bother them, until this morning anyway, when one got my little dog. They gotta go now.

Called an exterminator last week, who wouldn’t touch it because it’s about 50ft up and there’s no way to get a cherry picker or any kind of boom out back. (Mostly woods)

Any ideas? If I wasn’t in town limits, I’d just open up a window and shoot it from inside the house. (That still may be an option)

Couple months they will be gone and you will be able to take the nest down without a problem.

Well I’m not gettin’ up there to get it down, I get dizzy just standing on the deck, LOL. Plus now that the wife’s “baby” got stung, I’m on the clock to make them disappear.

Do you have a full auto BB gun? It would be fun to watch from inside your house.

I watched the exterminator take out a basket ball size yellow jackets nest out of my shrubbery bed once. Talk about crazy little bastards. Then a day later I decided that the tree they were under needed to go. I got so freaking lucky they must have been slowly dying already. But I took a chain saw cut the tree off leaving enough stump to grab with a chain. Went to go dig Out the rest and saw some buzzing around like 20-30. So I poured some fuel down in the spot. Turns out there was another side of the nest about the size of a volley ball. I got lucky as heck not getting stung when I took that chain saw to it.

They build nests in hollow trees. So unless you wanna climb it wait til it gets really cold and cut the tree down. Otherwise you’re gonna have them for awhile

Currently hunting one, lol. Man, you did get lucky!

Yeah, this one is just hanging out on the side of a tree facing the house. Cutting it’s not really an option, mostly due to it’s location on the property line and neighbors houses, someone would have to climb it either way.

Funny story, used to hear of folks finding a hornet nest on a limb in the winter, cutting it down and putting it in their house for decoration....Until it warmed up anyway...LOL

old weather prognosticators say high hornet nests mean deep snow.

several years ago, my son and i used slingshots to shoot one down.

European hornet. We have a colony every couple years in a girdled branch in one of our oaks up front. See hundreds of them at a time. Despite being scary looking, they're pretty docile compare to the t**t that is the bald faced hornet.

Sorry your pup got stung. Hope he's feeling okay.

He’s good, back to his lazy self. He got a dose of benadryl afterward. Standard procedure since our Shepard got stung and passed out a couple years ago. What kinda dog is allergic to bees???

26.5mm flare would certainly upset them, but I don’t know if that makes them leave or dig in.

Now that would be something!

Been pestering them a few times a day with a BB gun. Fun stuff, they swarm around but haven’t made a move towards me...yet. Hoping to bug them enough they move. Having neighbors who aren’t “gun” people pretty well all around has put a damper on any fun ways to get rid of them.... Ready to just sell and move back to the farm. I miss peeing off the porch.
