They actually sell 8 packs of buns and 8 packs of dogs now. And if you aren’t buying potato roll hotdog buns, you are an absolute savage and need some reconditioning.

If you have a bun…

I question whether you have a hot dog.

Because two of those dogs are for your dogs. Mine don't like buns.
That sounds about right, mine like to get to "the meat of the matter" not fillers like bread..

Some Nathan's, Martins Potato rolls, spicy mustard, ketchup, chopped sweet onion, some Nathan's French Fries, Old Bay, shredded sharp cheese, then some Hidden Valley Ranch dressing to dip em in..
Alright now think you all have decided what's for dinner tonight..

What about the air fryer
6 minutes on 380 are cooked to perfection
I'm going to try that. I use toaster oven set to medium toasting and they come out hot and crisp.
I like the natural casing dogs, poked with a fork so they don't explode.
They deep fry the dogs at Nannie Annie's in Conway, SC.

Sounds like a market opportunity, to me. While you're at it, how about fixing those stupid hotdog buns so that:

1. You can actually put a decent amount of toppings on the dog without making a mess when you eat them.
2. They don't split at the "crease" when you try to load them up and eat them.

As for the mismatch: the dog is part of the family, too, and he's perfectly happy with the plain old hotdog without the bun.

And, if you buy "quality" hotdogs (I know...WTF is a quality hotdog?) like Nathan's, they're available in 8 count packages. Ball Park comes in 8 and 16 count packages, too. Osca Mayar also has some 8 count packages.

But the REAL question isn't why hotdogs come in packs of 10 and the buns in packs of 8, it's whether or not a hotdog in a bun is a sammich.

And the answer to that is YES. IF IT'S FOOD WRAPPED UP IN SOME FORM OF BREAD TO BE HELD/EATEN BY YOUR HANDS IT'S G**D*** SAMMICH. And as far as I'm concerned, that makes a corndog a sammich on a stick. Tacos? Crunchy Mexican sammiches. Gyros? Chewy Greek sammiches. Calzones? Italian pizza sammiches. And bread that's used to sop up gravy and whatnot? Soup sammiches.

have you tested this theorem? Go to a restaurant and order a “Hot Dog Sandwich”. let us know what you get.

Since we're on the topic, which hot dogs are the best?

I really like the Costco big hot dogs (not the food court ones but they sell the same ones in a 15 pack).
Nathan’s. I do like those mixed meat cheap dogs also. But I also liked school square sheet pizza.
A boiled hotdog is disgusting. I prefer my dogs with a char finish.

As a lifelong proud southern man I prefer a kraut and mustard dog. Relish and mustard as well. Chili and cheese is a nice break. I am no fan of cold azz slaw on a perfectly good dog.

If you haven't deep fried a dog in a natural casing you haven't lived.

I mix it up a lot. One of my go-to's is a reuben dog - kraut, some chopped onions, a squeeze of thousand island dressing, and celery salt.

I do agree that coleslaw is a side, not a condiment, though.

Blackened hotdogs, hands down.

Peak hotdog flavor happens on the grill when black marks start appearing, regardless of the brand.

Now, brand and meat DOES affect flavor/texture, but they ALL hit their peak on the grill with some blackening going on.

Getting hungry here.

There was a place in Frederick MD.
Little hole in the wall, White Star, had these smoked Texas style hotdogs, kept their buns in a steamer like thing, fine chopped sweet onions, home made chilli, seasoning, and some special like mustard..would normally get 6 with everything man they were good.

We like Nathan's as a regular go-to. :)
I boil/steam them in a shallow layer of water in a cast iron skillet: then, after the water has evaporated, they pick up a bit of sear.
I like mustard (regular yellow) and ketchup. One bead of each. Nothing else. Minimalist.

Alas...shut down February 26, 2011. An even century of business.

Hoffman’s hot dogs grilled. Like @BlackGun a little char and cracks in the casing are good. In a pinch I’ll cook them in a cast iron pan, but generally if we’re doing dogs it’s for a large group and the patio/grill area is good for that. I’m usually fine with just some good mustard, but hot peppers and onions are always good too.

BunCutter sounds like a username waiting to be picked up. :D

🤣 🤣 🤣

Now I can't get this theme song out of my mind:

White BunCutters
They're really gonna cut some buns
White BunCutters
They'll cut anything but nuns

'Cause they're White BunCutters
They're White BunCutters
Call White BunCutters
And you, and me
And you, that's me

Though they aren't very bright
They can keep it up all night
It's all part of the game
Cut one bun and it's all the same

'Cause they're White BunCutters
They're White BunCutters
Call White BunCutters
And you, and me
And you, that's me

Bonus points to anybody who can figure this out this tribute! 😁😁😁

Yes sir that's the place, awesome hotdogs, they were nick named..Death Dogs, Gut Busters.
On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the line went out the door and down the street..

In my younger / dumber years would be driving the "circuit " ( muscle cars ) downtown Frederick, stop in there 2am still busy.

I'm a fan of Dietz and Watson deli dogs.

And I like the French/Belgian style of jabbing a baguette on a spike, squirting mustard in the hole, and then inserting the dog. Works well with Pretzel buns too.
