Hot Dogs & Buns

Well if you are going to start comparing hot dogs I will put my vote in for a Brightleaf
Have you had the brown brightleaf? You have to get past the brown (wrong color for hotdogs) but they are even better. Also, for the red dogs, you have to get the bag, not the vac sealed pack. I didn’t realize there was another brand beside brightleaf, I thought the rest of that mess in the hotdog section was for training pups.

I'm a fan of Dietz and Watson deli dogs.

And I like the French/Belgian style of jabbing a baguette on a spike, squirting mustard in the hole, and then inserting the dog. Works well with Pretzel buns too.
food lion deli on those.... sometimes on sale!

years ago Al's Night Hawk footlongs.....

That mismatch on bun and hotdogs always made me scratch my head. Those left over buns- a week later in the trash. Speaking of buns, I like a more solid bun. Not those which get soggy.

My mom would make hotdogs almost every week. We were pretty poor and it was cheap to feed 5 kids. Or we would have sauerkraut and cut up hotdogs fried in a pan. Basically a hotdog without bread.

Any leftover hotdogs are pretty good the next morning as a hotdog omelette.

When we lived in Okinawa, we had a housekeeper & sometimes babysitter named Yuriko. For lunch, she would make us "Okazu." She'd slice hotdogs (no idea what brand) French style - as in long ovals, not like bean strings - and fry 'em up with onions, green peppers, and soy sauce, served over steamed rice.

We would chow it down and beg for more! Mom was jealous cause Yuriko could get us to eat onions and peppers. :)

Nowadays I rarely eat hot dogs, but skillet-fry or grill 'em when I do. Side cut store brand buns; they're awful, and disintigrate, but by golly: Tradition!

A real hotdog is a gas station hotdog with mustard, ketchup, onions, and chili. You know it is right when the bag is saturated in grease and the truck smells of onions for a few days afterwards.

I'm a pretty big fan of the roller glizzy myself. I like to pack the bun personally, but a three-pack from sheetz will do.

This is one of those odd combos for me: I like hot dogs. I love an omelette. But not hot dog meat or ham in my eggs (scrambled or omelette) or mac & cheese or on a grilled cheese sandwich.

Old 7-11's half smokes loaded the puppy up with chili / cheese / relish / ketchup / mustard and one of their pizza size chocolate chip cookies. Or Highs dairy store, smoked Hotdogs, half smokes. Years ago there was a High's where I worked, man would get off work around 7am, go there they had a "pulled pork" with fresh coleslaw on top in one of them huge buns, you talk about good and messy, be driving on 495 to 270 on my way home, just chowing down, these people in traffic just looking at me, you know 7am, supposed to be coffee n donut or get off in the morning have the guy in the seafood fry me a pound or 2 of shrimp, be sitting at stop light and all you'd see is me throwing the tails out the window...miss those times
