Have actually thought about just removing the sights and seeing what happens when shooting at 7-10’
In defensive situations, at 10ft and under, I try not to use sights! That's up close and personal.

Some drills suggest covering your sights with black tape (match finish).I expect that in a difficult situation I’ll be looking at the threat rather than the sights, and I sure don’t want to be looking for the bouncing ball. This mirrors my thinking dead on, including increasing the complexity of the situation. Options are typically good, but not always. I don't want to be burning any of my already slow brain cells on whether to go with the laser or the sights for a given situation. As far as lasers go, I have yet to be really sold on them. Ive watched people at the range with them, and that little dot is bouncing everywhere. It seems some people get them and figure that they can ignore the basics of marksmanship because they will be like the Predator and immediately hone in on anything they need to. I always kinda felt that if I had to draw and fire that my target would probably either be too close for a laser to matter, or far enough away and moving fast enough that a laser would be too hard to track or at least I would waste time trying to find the laser when I could be concentrating on sight alignment. That...and its just one more thing to futz around with when I am going to be in a situation where simple will be better.
