We have a thread on favorite guitars so, how about your favorite guitar player? Roy Clark was one of the greatest and the first one that I remember seeing do some fancy playing Thanks, Hee-Haw!
Then I became a big fan of Stevie Ray Vaughan. SRV was taken from us too soon.

Today, one of the best out there is John 5. This guy is amazing.

For acoustic guitar, once again Roy Clark could bend them strings. Randy Scruggs, Tony Rice and today, we have Billy Strings. Who's your favorite guitar slinger?

First heard Al di Meola in 1977 with the release of Elegant Gypsy.

But #1 since I first heard Made in Japan ~ 1973 (albeit vid is from Rainbow) and the one guy who I'd unhesitatingly answer to the question "If I could magically play like N. N. who would you choose?" Ritchie Blackmore.

Since my axe is a harmonica, I'll also put in a word for one of my favorite harp players, Alan Wilson. The main riff he's playing through the song is pretty cool, but 5:53-7:53=perfect harmonica solo. He died shortly after recording this.

If Roy Clark isn’t the best to ever play a stringed instrument, then he’s tied with whoever you want to put there. 😁

Vince Gill is one of my favorites. Growing up I understood him winning Male Vocalist of the Year, but never understood how he won Entertainer of the Year. I’ve since changed my mind on that…he’s a heckuva entertainer.

Brad Paisley & Keith Urban get honorable mentions from me.

For some reason, I expected a different type of "axeman" when I read the title....

The first time I heard Eddie Van Halen, I knew just as sure as the sky is blue that he was the coolest guitarist that would ever live.
I'll mention Alex Lifeson because I'm a RUSH nerd.
So many good players already mentioned. Been lucky to grow while watching guitar and music change so much over the last 50 years.

I think guitar is in good hands with some of these younger players.

I was 13 in 1975. This guys music sounded different than anything else on the radio and immediately captured me. He’s the sole reason I ever wanted to play guitar.

Tom Scholz, BOSTON

Awesome and talented dude. Wrote great melodic songs. And did cool electrical engineering and recording stuff.

If you can find any of his old original Rockman stuff it really nails Boston sounds. I am OCD sometimes about my own music like he famously was [about his].

So many greats have already been named. Here are a few that I haven’t seen mentioned yet.

Angus Young from AC/DC

Chuck Berry

Jimi Hendrix

Jimmy Paige

Edited to add: Paige
