The genius employee that hooked the cable to itself around a1” pin, then tried to drag a 10K lb lift through the mud, thus snapping the cable. I told him to leave it alone, and he removed the old cable. All the instructions I’ve found state to install JUST LIKE how the old one was mounted.
Some genius also painted over the data tag.

It should be wrapped over the top, and looks correct to me. When winding it in it should be over the top, down the back. Staring at it from the driver's side it looks counter clockwise

When you get more wraps on there it should be above the deck. Technically the middle of the drum should be above the deck line

Agree with @heavydoc that looks ok to me? Looks like it should pull from above the deck when the line has a load at 12 o'clock.

In my limited experience with "working" winches. The hold down can be anything from a socket milled into the drum, to a bolted on clamp to that welded loop you have. I was always told, taught and have experienced that if you are to the last loop of line across the spool, you are maxed out.

Basically friction of your line on the surface of the drum is what keeps the end tight. Remove enough windings and no clamp will hold the end of your line for the winch capacity.

Correct, 1 full layer of windings is necessary, you get close to that and game over

I was this many days old when it dawned on me that a skid steer without an attachment needs to be backed onto a rollback.

I was planning on leaving the bucket, attaching the auger, then loading back up, so I could take them to my sons place for fence installation.
Me trying to drive the 10 speed, non-synchro transmission on and off of US-1 in Wake Forest was more entertaining. It felt like I was 15 and learning to drive a stick shift on hilly terrain.
