I guess old is a relative term.

I picked up this S&W 3914 yesterday, made around 1989. These single stack 3rd Gen Smiths chambered in 9 mm have risen in popularity lately so I guess I'm not the only one who likes or appreciates things that aren't recent production models.

Traditional DA with decocker and manual safety...not sure why a belt and suspenders...but what the hey.

It was NIB so that makes it even better...particularly to old guys like me :)

I got the 3rd gen bug and had to have every single DAO model in 9mm!!! not really but close. I've got 5943, 6946, 3953 and CS9D!

I love shooting these things! triggers are smoother than my revolvers.

3rd gen smiths are freakin awesome and I am trying to collect every model. Except the .40 cal stuff.

I have a 39-1 and I agree, the trigger is outstanding in SA.

Great looking pistols all.

Vp9c...what's that P7M8 doing in there? :)

Is that a Chantilly fat trigger model?

lol! Good eye!

I dreamed for years about owning a P7M8! now I have 2! chantilly IE date and trussville AG date code. they're shooters not museum pieces, but I like to shoot my guns not stare at them!

I shot a IDPA match with the third GEN Smith. Will probably try to shoot at least one match with the HK this year.

So is this like an unofficial 3rd gen thread? Let me get some pics. I just picked up a mint 4566TSW Tuesday.

Outstanding collection!
Very slick early production 4566 w/ the hooked trigger guard and flash chromed hammer & trigger!

Soooo, when would you like to part w/ the 4513TSW?????
Thanks! I dunno. It's the early model. Little harder to find. Always looking for 3rd gens!

Coworker has a S&W 5906, liked it a lot but could not buy one new at the time,
found one a year ago on Bud's used police trade, oh yeah I snapped one up.

For sure you started something, including inspiring me to make a deal on a new piece I've been drooling over for too long.

That's funny...mine still had the inspection sticker attached in the exact same place..lots of sticky under that dot.:)

Was number 16 still on the line 4 years later?

Gimme!!!!!!!!!

Picked up this Smith & Wesson PPC9 earlier this year (had been on the lookout for a while for one). I am a big fan of the 3rd Generation S&W Performance Center pistols.

Wow, that's not something you see everyday!

Love my 1st 2nd 3rd gens. Great guns... from the top clockwise...910, 5946, 59 nickel, 915, and 4046. Had to have the 915 cerakoted. Previous owner mistreated and then rattle canned. Its now burnt bronze...

So I have my own opinion, but why do you all think the older gen S&W's are rising in popularity?

for me it was nostalgia and a good deal. I fell in love w the DAO triggers. they are smoother than my revolvers!

can't shoot as fast, but they are accurate as heck and feel good in my hand

Very nice!

I see three different versions of PPC (including long slide). What are the other two (hard to tell from photo)?
The 4" is a fixed sight TDA product code #170083 (IDPA)
The 5" is a fixed sight TDA product code #170265 (PPC service pistol)

I have had an "on again off again" relationship with the Smith autos ever since my dad started carrying a 39-2 as a small town cop in 1978. At the time I believe he was the only one not carrying a revolver on that small force.

I've had a few over the years, but the only one I have right now, which would be one of the last to ever leave my stable, is this 3913. I love the size and this particular piece and I have some history so I am very hopeful that I'll always have it until one of my children claim it.

That's at the top of my list for Santa this year.

I "unfortunately" got the bug for those a few years back. I first acquired a 3953. Then a found a 5946 for a great price at my LGS. My latest acquisition is this 6946; below is a picture. I made of mistake of asking to take a look at it and the salesmen brought out the original box with two more magazines in it (3 total). I traded a 469 to finance it. I'm currently trying to find a CS-9, preferably a DAO model but people seems to want a small fortune for them.

To any LEOs for former LEOs out there who had to carry those all steel, full frame 3rd gen smiths; my hat if off to you!
When I picked up my 5946 at my LGS I got to talking with the staff and after a while I had to put the case on the counter because my arm was starting to get sore. I looked at one of the salesmen whose dad is retired from the local metro PD and just said "I don't know how your dad carried a 4046 all those years."
He just looked back and me and said matter-of-factly: "Yeah, he has back and hip problems."
