Look, I don’t have the time or the skill for what I would like to be able to do. I can restore gun stocks pretty well, including bringing back worn checkering, but that’s about it.

But man I love restoration shows. I can watch them for hours on end. Not only do I get to see things I’ve never heard of but to see them taken from “found in a barn” to off the show room floor is incredible.

Right now I’m watching “American Restoration” which follows 5 different shops across this US and they are restoring everything from Edsel’s to a 100 year old electric car charger.

Love it. Love all of it. If I could have one super power. lol.

Anybody else into this and can recommend a show or two? Doesn’t need to be car related.

Enjoy watching them when i have time but no set shows. I have alot of respect for the talent and patience people have to bring much of that stuff back to show room condition.

Hand tool rescue and wrist watch revival on YouTube are cool channels to check out.

I love this stuff as well, always enjoyed/wanted to do that kinda stuff.

I have a number of things sitting around waiting to be fixed up. I have most all the tools needed, good enough with my hands and knowledgeable enough to do it, absolutely zero drive/ambition.

I'm subscribed to several YouTube channels dedicated to restoration.

I can't seem to get enough of that crap.

A few examples are:

Cool Again Restoration
Lost & Restored
Tysy Restoration

I like Hand Tool Rescue, as mentioned by @hp468, with the only problem being that he talks once in a while. I kinda prefer the channels that only show the work without chatter.

Post yo list.

I need more things to keep me from completing my projects. 😂

I’ve always wanted to be able to do it. But I just don’t have the patience or the skill for most of it.

I watched this movie when it came out. I was 12. I want this skill. lol.

Scene from “the heavenly kid” circa 1985.

Theyve only put three videos so far, but I find it wonderful to watch them do their thing on this old Datsun Z
other restoration videos on the channel that I've not watched yet.

put it on 2x speed if you wish,

I’ll take a watch. Love the old Z’s. Saw one a couple years ago on the road that looked like it just rolled off the lot. I was amazed.

Give the first a view and see what you think
There's no commentary. No music. Just work.
It's nothing flashy (first vid), but so relaxing to watch a car get stripped down to just a frame/shell.
2nd and 3rd are repairing bodywork which is very neat to watch how they can do it!

I would prefer that.

I hate the made up rushed deadlines and guys grab assing in the shop.

Just show me the restoration dammit.

The trucks don’t exactly end up show room clean but the YouTube channel “zip ties and bias plies” seems to find junk and get it running in a funny kind of way.

It’s not kid friendly but always good for a laugh. Might not be what you’re looking for but thought I’d give it a mention. You’ll even be helping a poor Canadian get some views.

The Repair Shop is a British restoration show where people bring in family heirlooms and the team of specialist repair/restore the items. 4 seasons on Discovery.

Im watching part 3 right now...it's amazing how easy they make bodywork look
This guy is GOOD

Watched these myself. They know the Datsun Zs inside and out (pun intended)! I’m like @Chdamn love watching skilled craftsmen doing there thing. Don’t mind talking as long as it is directly related to the work. Not the BSing and going back and forth about pricing, finding parts, and deadlines.

I find the matchbox car restorations to be pretty interesting. Who would have thought that would ever be a thing?

Yeah it's cool to watch the little things be brought back and know I might be able to afford to do that if I wanted something to do.
Makes wish that I had all my matchbox cars I left laying around outside. Back then, I would have never thought it would be a thing and that some of them would be worth a little bit of money.

Watched these this past week. That guy and his friend that helped are awesome. Wished I had the skill some of these guys have

I would love to make a show staring @NiceOldDouble and his beautiful craftsmanship being back those old side x sides.
if you can't even make a holster without getting a rules violation... restoring a whole gun would be insta-ban

Not a restoration, but a build.
And I dont mean a 'build' of a car, like modding it, but this dude is BUILDING his replica Ford GT in his garage.
Very cool, worth 17 minutes

I'm not following. Can you explain?

I believe @chiefjason had some of his holster making videos wrecked for violating guidelines. You know - it's against the rules to be pro gun.

I figure a channel dedicated to making guns work would immediately violate a lot of rules and get shut down pretty quickly.

Yeah, pretty close to being banned on TikTok for holster making videos. And I've been shadow banned on Instagram for the same. Maybe on Facebook but it seems to do better for me so maybe not. Some of my YouTube vids are up around 10k views. But I had 2 on TT hit 100k+ views before getting nuked.

And a lot of pages I follow on IG are getting violations and IG is not adding them into the algorithms. And if you don't know where to look for the notification you would never know they did it.

Here's a restoration of Godzilla 1985, adding back the bits of Raymond Burr that were taken out.
The original Godzilla was recut with Raymond Burr in it to make it palatable for US audiences.
In the Godzilla 1984 release, being a direct sequel to the original(and back to serious), the US release added Raymond Burr again.
But the VHS is long out of print, and for royalty reasons, new releases don't have the Raymond Burr bits. This restoration adds it back, and upscales the quality.

Or did y'all mean something different by restoration? :p

If I found an old tool I wanted to 'restore' then my part would have ended a minute in after soaking in evaporust for a day or two and getting it turning again.

Not this cat.

That was awesome to watch.

I relate a lot to your OP, it's so satisfying to watch a skilled person work their magic
Something like this, awesome.
I mean, honestly, he could have BOUGHT a NEW adjustable wrench for far less money (time is money, youre very aware) than spent on this old one...but that's not the point sometimes.

Any and all of this is a talent I do not have.
If I won the lottery I would have my first two cars re created. Then about 20 more.

My cousin, now retired, ran an auto shop in Goldsboro. He knows everything about mechanics and engines. He partnered up with a buddy over the years, a body guy, to restore some older cars, really as a hobby. They'd sell for what they put into it.

It's definitely a talent, and I wish I had it. I would love to restore a 76 AMC Gremlin.

I love a good gremlin. I've missed out on a couple over the years. My first time ever seeing one was as a youngin. It was set up on a s10 blazer frame with 4x4 and big tires. It was the craziest coolest thing I ever saw. If I ever have the disposable income to piss away it would be spent on a hot rod gremlin or a hot rod Studebaker pickup. I have other vehicles I wouldn't mind having but those 2 are on the bucket list.
