I need this in my life

That'd be fun, but I don't know if I missed the flight time. I saw they said up to a distance of 25 miles, but is that if you are flying at the top speed of 62mph the whole time or what?

Just heard on the radio that Aston Martin is working on a flying car too.

This is the vision Asimov hoped we would be at already, before his death.

Trivia- IGY was the International Geophysical Year, 1968 I think. When science was going to unite the world.

That thing is pretty badass. But why just get one? Get at least 3 of them so you can race each other.

A little surprised it doesn't have some sort of skids to land on instead of just the hull.

Wonder if that 25 mile range is with or against a head wind? With top speed of 62 mph a head wind could make a big difference.

Very familiar...
Took 'em long enough.

I wonder what the service ceiling is on that thing? I can't imagine something like that even remotely going mainstream in a metro area where there is a large airport nearby or even a smaller controlled airport. I think that is the biggest problem with the "Flying Car" concept. We all know how bad the drivers of cars are out there. Can you imagine people buzzing around Charlotte, Raleigh, or even the Triad while ATC is relying on these folks to stay below a certain altitude?

It is speed limited in the US to 62mph.

Yeah, speed limited, until some good ole boy with a handful of Craftsman wrenches wants to go faster.

OPENER says that it will require all operators to complete the FAA Private Pilot written exam and complete a mandated vehicle familiarization and operator training

I can see that for the guy that buys it new. But what happens when it gets sold to the next owner.....

.

I get the impression that this is one of those “If you have to ask how much it costs then you can’t afford it anyway” kinda deals.

It’s all about finding out if there is enough of a market. Competitors will help the price get lower if this thing is somewhat of a success.

Phone rings. "Hello?" .... "It's me dear. Dinner is about ready. Will you be home soon?" ..... "Yes Sweetheart. Be home in a jiffy." ...... Grabs his briefcase and coat, runs out and hops in his Blackfly. In his haste to get home in time for dinner, he forgets to check the weather for his route of flight home. It's no mystery how this short story could end.

It is a very cool aircraft and I'd love to fly one. But I don't think it would ever work in a commuting scenario on a day-to-day basis. I could see it working out in a rural area where there are only a few in use.

I know. I'm being her:

Twenty-five miles wouldn't get me from home to work. :(

Although it might help bypass some of the worst of it. Does it do VTOL? Cause I need VTOL.

Call me when they get it to a 40+ mile range w/VTOL and I'm in!

Edit:

So I read/watched the video. VTOL is very loosely applied here, no wheels, doubt it could "take off" from a crowded parking lot. So I can't drive it to the park to take off, iffy on landing in the front yard.

So non-starter as usual.
