I've watched two 45/70 new Marlin's, a Rossi 357, pass through my local shop without buying them. Have passed on two different "tactical" Henry 45 Colts. Currently know where a Henry 44 (used) and a new Henry 357 reside. So much want, so little funds. I talk myself out of them, with the following argument:

1) Ammo is too expensive
2) Would annoy the other guys at the match when I shot it as a PCC (USPSA or steel challenge)
3) Did I mention I'm broke

I shot a buddies 45/70 years ago and fell in love. I may hold out for the new 357 Marlin or just buy a press and go with the 45 Colt Henry:)

I doubt I'll be satisfied with a Rossi. I prefer my 1911's and lever guns to be US made. Just my hillbilly nature.

Anyone have any experience with the new Henry 357 or the 45 Colt?

Thanks.

I have an older Henry big boy in .357. It’s the end loader not the one with a king’s gate. I like it, it shoots and cycles .357 and .38 well and I haven’t been able to jam it yet. I have heard that the cowboy action crowd doesn’t care much for them because the action can’t be made as fast as some of the others like Marlins etc…but for my purposes it does what I need it to.

I shoot Rossi in SASS from time to time. Great rifle when slicked up. I carry a stainless r92 in the wood all the time. Throw some shot shells in it when the time comes for snakes and full house .357 for whitetail and hogs

They weren't as inflated as most. I don't remember the price of the Marlins exactly, but the used Rossi 357 was tagged at $650 (gone now). The new Henry 357 is tagged $949, surprisingly it was still there @11:30 today. His price on new guns is tag + tax, cash or card. No wiggle room, as he prices them as cheap as he can right out of the gate.

May have to put the next one on layaway. Do I buy a single stage or invest in a Dillion right off?

Reloading any rifle cartridge...
• Single Stage
• 3-4 Hole Turret (remove auto advance)

Strongly suggest the Turret with hand primer. Set up the dies once then swap out the die holder if/when going to another caliber.

Go 45/70. I have one of the old Guide Guns, with the ported barrel.
I load for it on a Rock Chucker. Wanna have some fun?? Load up a bunch of old Black Powder loads for it.
