Yesterday the wife and I spent the day in Alton Virginia at VIR for the IMSA series race. Apart from the miserable heat, it was great.
We started by crossing the bridge as the Lambo class was in their qualifying event. A very cool way to start the day, two dozen new Super Trofeo at full song going up the esses.
Miata class had, hands down, the best racing of the day, as it's a spec class. Tight, wheel to wheel racing.
Saw the top sports car class during 90 minutes of practice as well as qualifying. And with qualifying, saw the LMP3 cars do that, too.
And then finished off with the GS/TCR cars in their 2 hour sprint.
It's not cheap, but 65 bucks for 8 hours of entertainment - not a bad deal at all.
Go, pack up a picnic and enjoy some awesome cars. But make sure you visit the pits and garages to get up close with these machines. The crews are very kind and dont mind if you step into the garage for a photo as long as you dont interrupt them
Even had a crew guy apologize for 'messing up' my picture as he was leaving the garage, seriously cool folks.
